Uncle Ben was right with his previous quote that the Vipers have potential but can they be coached properly..the answer is still No. What happened? Same outcome 2 nights in a row.

I watched tonight's game on Hockey TV and this was a carbon copy of last night's game.

The Vipers with probably there best period of the pre-season, jumped out to a 3-1 lead were all over the Warriors. But for a second straight game, the Snakes blow a 3-1 2nd period and allow the Tribe to tie the game. I thought Vernon was by far the better team in the opening frame, while the Warriors responded with a very strong and dominating 2nd period. I thought both teams were fairly even in the 3rd. Just like last night, the Vipers had several opportunities to put West Kelowna away when leading 3-1 but couldn't capitalize and allowed the Warriors back in the hockey game. Tonight Vernon had several chances to grab a bigger lead when up 3-1 and couldn't but also had some key power plays with the game tied to take the lead and couldn't. Vernon struggled with the PP going 0-6 Both teams are evenly matched. This was a physical home & home series as these teams don't like each other. I thought the Vipers could have easily won both games this weekend. I know it's only the pre-season but the Snakes found ways to lose this weekend and didn't learn from there mistakes last night. This is why I don't agree with going with a young team this year. The Vipers have improved and do look much better the past four games, compared to the first three games. The Snakes could have won all four of the past four games. This team is slowly starting to gel, gain confidence and come together as a team. The Vipers are slowly finding the back of the net, getting loads of shots on goal and creating/generating a ton of chances game after game. West Kelowna wins the pre-season series 4-0

Even though were able to watch these games online or on Shaw TV You don't get the same perspective from the game or get to asses players like you do when being at the game live and watching the game live. Without being allowed inside arena's and being able to watch training camps/pre-season games, it's difficult to get the same kind of judgement on teams and players.

Will Arquiett, Desmond Johnson, Reagan Milburn, Max Bulawka and Kobe Grant I thought played well in the loss. I'm very impressed with Vernon's young goaltenders and recently acquired Will Arquiett.

Jason McKee said the Vipers are hoping to get some injured players back in the lineup next weekend.

Kyle Pow, John Evans, Matthew Stienburg & Cole Schwebuis all played well for the Warriors.

Well did I call it? Or did I call it? Hahaha! WooooooooHoooooo!

I predicted the WKW sweep, and I even predicted game 2 would be won in overtime! Looks like I win the wager Mr.Diehard! What do I win??

Anyone else have deja vu with tonights game? Vipers blew a 3-1 lead AGAIN!!

Not trying to pour salt on the wound Vipers fans....but I gotta have a little fun here and brag it up considering the circumstances.

Go Warriors Go!

@Bobby C

Thanks Bobby, it must be frustrating seeing a repeat of last night. It seems Jason McKee can get your boys fired up for a game.....they dominated the first period....but something is getting lost in translation with the finish.

I know the Snakes have many injured players....but perhaps it would be helpful in naming a Captain to help lead this team and help keep them motivated and lead by example.

Yes, this is exhibition but someone needs to step up and take charge. If not the coach then who?

Well well well, Look who was bang on with his predictions on this weekends home & home series. I must say, a job well done Uncle Ben!

So now your looking for a prize are you? Hmmm How about a pat on the back?

Thanks for viewing my blog and being a regular viewer. A big thanks for being a good sport and bringing some life and spice to the blog with your comments.

Until we meet again, in the regular season that is

Go Vipers Go!

You say no Captain to lead this team,in my opinion and more than likely the C will go to Trey Taylor but until he comes back (from concussion? Ive heard) and the players believe in the coach nothing will change.

I have been also wondering why the Vipers haven't named a captain yet? Towards the end of August and into September most teams were naming captains. I don't care if it's only exhibition and the regular season doesn't start until December, you still need a captain/leader not only in the dressing room and on the ice but off the ice too. I wrote an article about two months ago, saying I think veteran forward Max Bulawka is my choice for captain.

The Vipers decided to go with a very young team this year and your captain/leadership group should be the ones leading the charge and should be named before any games are played. Just my opinion.

Vernon Vipers Previous Captains:

2019-20 Connor Marritt
2018-19 Jagger Williamson
2017-18 Jagger Williamson
2016-17 Riley Brandt
2015-16 Colton McCarthy
2014-15 Riley Guenther
2013-14 Ryan Renz
2012-13 Brett Corkey
2011-12 Patrick McGillis
2010-11 David Robinson
2009-10 Kevin Kraus
2008-09 Chris Crowell
2007-08 Chris Crowell
2006-07 Matt Swerhone/Mike Ullrich
2005-06 Andy Zulyniak
2004-05 Mark Nelson
2003-04 Jake Wilkens
2002-03 Chad Murray
2001-02 Jason Williamson
2000-01 Jason Williamson
1999-00 Kori Davison
1998-99 Lennie Rampone
1997-98 Adam Stewart
1996-97 Vic Sharma
1995-96 Jeff Cheeseman

I'd have to say Donohoe. A's to Taylor, JJTC and MacDonald.

Bobby C said...

Bob have you watched this guy? Sorry but Donohoe is the leader in giveaways, poor skating, stupid penalties and overall terrible performances for a 20 year old. Im not sure how he can be considered a leader.

Bob McInnes said...

Donohoe WAS not that good last season. This season he's been the 20 year old leading a very young team. And playing a lot better.

I would put my money on either Taylor or Balawka to wear the C with Taylor possibly getting the nod due to his long run with the Vipers. But, I wouldn't be shocked to see Jack Glen considered. After all they gave him a spot on the team, why not give him a letter also. Whoever is chosen it probably comes down to how McKee sees the player interacting with the others, especially the younger players. Time will tell.

How long will McKee be working on "the process" and when can we expect some consistency? The Vipers do have injuries & everyone is dealing with Covid but those are not excuses for not being prepared or playing a full 60 minutes. That falls on the Coach and their record under his guidance so far has been dismal. Maybe it is time to address that issue.

I forgot to ask.....how is it that the Vipers have 8 players injured and when did these injuries occur? I've been reading about them being out for a while now, so did this happen pre-okanagan cup?

Here are the players that are injured.

Jack Glen
Ryley Appelt
Logan Lorenz
Jordan Tonelli
Trey Taylor
Liam Cavan
Sam Duerr

Taylor & Duerr have played games but Glen, Appelt, Lorenz, Tonelli and Cavan were injured prior to the exhibition games and have yet to play a game this year.

They HAD 8 injured players until the 3 Stooges traded away another injured player. I don't know if Feist is finishing his treatment in Vernon or if he refused to report. This organization has NO CLASS whatsoever!!! As for Taylor being captain, I highly doubt it. He was a Ferner recruit who knows how a first class organization/team should operate. They will just drive him crazy. Just ask Marritt or Williamson what it's like dealing with these clowns. Both were too classy to say anything while they were here but maybe now that they are gone perhaps they will open up about the absurdities that occur. Better yet, ask the parents. I won't repeat what I have heard from them I will let them tell their own tales.

How do you know Feist didnt report ? Neither Feist or Fudger were on the CV game sheet, however it may have something to do with changing Cohorts, having to quarantine, rather than not reporting ?

vipersdiehardfan said...

Colby Feist and Brett Fudger are not listed on the Capitals roster and have yet to play a game with Cowichan. When the trade was announced October 13th 2020 Will Arquiett was listed on the Vipers roster the same day.

Never said Feist didn't report. You missed the point. Trading players who are injured is just plain wrong. It will be interesting to see if management remains loyal to the players here who have been paying to play or if they cast them aside to load up with WHL players.

Graham Turnbull does an excellent job with his program "Vernon Viper Voices", catching up with past Vipers. They all had great things to say about their time in Vernon & especially credited Duncan Wray for his passion, caring for his players & opportunities he provided. Duncan was a man of class & integrity and ensured his employees & team reflected the same. It will be interesting whether any of the current players (or for last year) have anywhere near the same kind of feedback for this organization if they are interviewed in the future.
