Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers have acquired the CJHL playing rights to Jarrod Semchuk from the Bonnyville Pontiacs in exchange for future considerations.
Semchuk, from Kamloops, BC, spent last season with the Silverbacks suiting up for 31 games.
“Jarrod is a big, strong power forward with the potential to create offense for our group,” says Head Coach and GM of the Vipers Jason McKee.

Silverbacks Move Semchuk to Bonnyville to Complete Jan. 10 Trade
June 1, 2020
Salmon Arm B.C. — The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have traded 2002-born forward Jarrod Semchuk to the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Bonnyville Pontiacs, a move that completes a trade from the January 10 deadline that saw the Backs acquire defenceman Jeremy Gervais in exchange for future considerations.
Semchuk, a Kamloops native, recorded three assists in 31 games for the Backs in the 2019-20 regular season and added an assist in the Backs opening-round playoff sweep of the Victoria Grizzlies. He also tallied two points in 10 games as an affiliate player in 2018-19, including his first career BCHL goal.
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks would like to thank Jarrod for his hard work and dedication to the club and wish him the best of luck with the Pontiacs.

Here are a few write-ups on Jarrod from the Scouting news

Well after following all the teams through out the league and almost every team making several trades over the summer, Jason McKee and the Vipers make there first trade of the off season. Hmmm I don't know about this trade. I remember his name and remember him playing for Salmon Arm last year, but I don't recall him being a standout player for the Silverbacks or having a good game vs the Vipers. I read several short write-ups on Jarrod off the Scouting news website and liked what I heard and read from different scouts and hockey people. Jarrod is only 18 so could be with Vernon for a few years, depending on school in the future. I do like his size but noticed he only had three assists in 31 games with the Backs last year. Was he injured? One thing I noticed with the Vipers roster this year is Jason McKee seems to be going with a younger team but a big team. The Snakes have yet to make an official announcement on who will be returning from last season.

This will be Jason's team this year not a Ferner team and all those doubtful people about what Jason is all about will be saying . What is going on? I mean really what is happening as it looks like we have a decent team this year. Then the coach can say. WHAT, WHAT, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM DID YOU NOT THINK THAT MAYBE , JUST MAYBE I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING/// Hmmm, coached at all different levelS, won coach of the year in alberta and had a good playing career playing ,defence and offence. Well doubters let us see what will happpen this year. GO,VIPERS,GO.
I'm not sure how you can say we have a decent team this year when we have added absolutely no players with any experience at all. Point being Trail picks up 2 scorers from Salmon Arm and we get a player with 1 goal in 41 games. All other teams are making significant changes and the Vipers are not. Its called a Rebuild not a Reload like in years past
Great to get some other comments and thought's going as there hasn't been a lot of chatter on the blog over the off season. First off I have to agree with BINGO with regarding his comments about Jason McKee. BINGO is right, this year will be Jason McKee's team as he stepped into last season with his team basically recruited/picked before he got to Vernon. I liked some of the moves he made last season and like the mix of recruits/committed players he's picked for this year. The team looks young but they have some size and look like they will be a big team. I'm really interested to see what kind of a roster/team McKee and the Vipers put on the ice this season. Not a lot of happy campers at Viper games last season, regarding the team. #2, I have to agree with Chipman3 as the Vipers haven't done anything in regards to trades/upgrading the roster for this season trying to bring in some veteran/or experienced players. Most of the teams around the league have been very busy/active this summer announcing new recruits/committed players but also making moves/trades and improving there rosters. The Vipers trade yesterday was the first trade of the off season. With no official word on who will be returning from last year's team, Chipman3 is bang on. The Vipers need to try and make a few trades to bring in some veteran presence/experience. The BCHL is too strong and too good of a league to start the season full of just a handful of returning players and the rest of your roster made up with recruits/committed players. It's only July so will see what the Vipers have in store for the remainder of the summer. I guess it also depends on if there will be Junior hockey this fall. I wish the Vipers would give us some kind of info regarding whos returning or who could possibly be back from last season.
Go Vipers Go!
Future considerations from last year. I think down the road with this in mind that should a veteran player become available and Jason feels it looks like it being necessary he will make that move/decision. Ferner at different times during the playing season would make these moves and I don't see Jason our coach being any different. Viper fans we will just have to wait and see. Remember Jason is a veteran coach and this is not his first rodeo. GO,VIPERS,GO.
Did this trade actually go through? No list of this trade on the league website under transactions and Semchuk isn't listed on the Vipers roster.
