Vipers Acquire Playing Rights of Keegan Karki
Vernon, BC The Vernon Vipers have acquired the playing rights to goaltender Keegan Karki from the Cowichan Valley Capitals in exchange for future considerations.
Karki, 19, is from Sartell, Minnesota. He started his Junior career with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in 2017-18 before a brief stop in Corpus Christi in the NAHL. He spent most of this season with the Everett Silvertips, before being acquired by the Prince Albert Raiders.
“He’s a veteran goalie, with great size and we feel can really complement Reilly.” says Head Coach and GM of the Vipers Jason McKee. “With the departure of Porter, it put us in need at the position and we feel Keegan will fit in nicely.
Karki was 9-2-2-1 in 17 games this season. He will join his new team this weekend as they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs tomorrow night and travel to Salmon Arm for a date with the Silverbacks on Sunday afternoon.

I'm not a big fan of bringing in kids from the Western Hockey League, just look at how many players the Vipers brought in last season and again this season, that played a handful of games, before having there Major Junior rights traded, left Vernon back to the Western Hockey League. After James Porter Jr left the Snakes for the Spokane Chiefs recently the Vipers were in desperate need of a second goaltender. Even though Keegan Karki played in the Western Hockey League, I like the addition of the 19 yr old netminder. The Vipers not only pick up a second goaltender, but a veteran goaltender that has a pretty good record this year and may be one of the biggest goaltenders in the league, listed at 6'4 218lbs Wow! Trying to acquire or bring in a player at this time of year is always tough, but sometimes a little more difficult when dealing with a goaltender. I thought maybe if the Snakes couldn't find another goalie, they may be forced to sign one of there "AP" goaltenders. A big pat on the back to Jason McKee and the Vipers for landing Karki. Will Karki get a start in one of the two games this weekend? With the addition of Karki, the Vipers now own the rights to four 19 yr old goaltenders. If all four do decide to return next season as a 20 yr old, the Vipers will have some solid goaltenders that could be used as trade bait over the off season or heading into training camp next summer. Reilly Herbst, Keegan Karki, James Porter Jr and Max Palaga could all possibly return next season.
