Porter backstops Vipers to finals, earns POW

Vernon Vipers goaltender Aidan Porter has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Apr. 7, the league announced Monday.
The 19-year-old from Boston, Mass. won all three of his games last week, making 67 saves on 70 shots and ending up with a .957 save percentage, a 1.00 goals-against average and one shutout, leading Vernon to a series win and a berth in the Fred Page Cup Finals.
Porter kicked off his week with a 26-save performance in a 7-2 win over the Wenatchee Wild on Tuesday, giving his team a 2-1 series lead. He was named second star of the game. He followed that up with a 16-save shutout performance in a 3-0 Vipers win and was named first star. Finally, the Princeton commit made 25 saves, including 15 in the first period alone, as the Vipers beat the Wild 3-1 in Game 5 to advance to the league finals. He was named second star of the game.
After last week’s games, Porter now has a 12-5 record in the postseason, a 2.22 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage with one shutout.
