Former Viper Luke Lee-Knight Named SJHL Goaltender Of The Week:

Former Vernon Vipers tryout goaltender Luke Lee-Knight was named the SJHL goaltender of the week on Tuesday, October 23rd 2012.  Lee-Knight recently signed with the SJHL Humboldt Broncos.  In three games with the Broncos Lee-Knight is 2-1 with two shutouts and a 1.67 GAA.  Lee-Knight was invited to the WHL Tri-City Americans Training camp this year before being reassigned. In two games with the Americans Lee-Knight went 0-1 with a 5.98 GAA. Lee-Knight attended the Vernon Vipers Training camp last year before being released-cut. Lee-Knight played last season with the WHL Spokane Chiefs and Prince Albert Raiders.

SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Ryan Ostertag, Weyburn Red Wings

1992 F Ryan Ostertag (Regina SK) was recently acquired by the Red Wings from the Nipawin Hawks and he has adapted rather quick to his new surroundings.  Ostertag scored five goals and three assists in two games played over the weekend, starting with a huge 3-goal and 3-assist performance against the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday.  He followed it up with two more goals in a loss to Estevanon Sunday.  For the season, Ostertag now has 8-goals and 7-assists in 11-games, with five of those goals and seven of those assists coming in six games with Weyburn.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:

Kameron Ballas, Humboldt Broncos

1992 D Kameron Ballas (Lloydminster AB) picked up two goals and three assists in three games played last week, all Bronco victories.  Ballas had two assists last Tuesday at Kindersley, and then one night later had one goal and one assist at Battlefords.  He ended the week with a goal, on home ice, against Kindersley on Saturday.  The five points scored this week represents his entire season’s output over the course of nine games played.

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:

Luke Lee Knight, Humboldt Broncos

1993 G Luke Lee Knight (Calgary AB) played two games last week, both against the Kindersley Klippers, and he shut them out in both matches.  On Tuesday, Lee Knight was the visiting goalie and turned back all 27-shots he faced.  On Saturday, he made 34-saves as the Broncos won 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.  Lee Knight was in the Western Hockey League last year with the Spokane Chiefs and Prince Albert Raiders.  He joined the Broncos earlier this season and played his first two games last week.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Josh Betinol, Battlefords North Stars

1994 F Josh Betinol (Chestermere AB) collected a goal and three assists in two games played last week as the Stars split their two contests.  On Wednesday, Betinol had a goal and two helpers in a losing cause against Humboldt.  The former UFA Bison picked up an assist on Friday in a victory over Melfort and now has 7-points in 9-games overall this season.  Betinol was also part of the SJHL Evaluation Camp that was held in Humboldt earlier this month.
