Was at tonights game as Vernon defeated Quesnel 7-0 in front of 1,692 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: Vipers got off to a quick start with some physical play and really carried the edge in play in the early goings. Vernon was skating hard with some good puck movement down low and it paid off as 1:56 into the period Bryce Kakoske made a nice pass over to Ryan DePape who beat Ryan Demharter putting Vernon up 1-0. Vernon had full control and total domination over the Mills as the play was held deep in the Quesnel zone for the first 10 mins. Chris Crowells hard work and hustle inbehind the Millionaires goal paid off after Crowell won the battle for the puck, then fed a nice pass out front where Braden Pimm scored a nice goal putting the Vipers up 2-0. Quesnel couldnt keep up with the speed and skill of the Vipers as it showed in the first half. Both teams then struggled for the next few mins as there was a lull in play with not much action going on at both ends. Vernon come close to going up 3-0 but John Digness was stoned in front after Demharter made a nice save in close. The Millionaires wernt in tonights game from the opening draw, only solid scoring chance for the Mills came in close where Trevor Hertz was stopped by Andrew Hammond. Hammond saw very few shots as well as any real quality scoring chances by Quesnel. Vernon was up 2-0 after 20 mins of play. Vipers outshot the Millionaires 15-7.
2nd Period: Vipers got an early powerplay and Bryce Kakoske had the best scoring chance with a shot from the mid-circle but rang it off the crossbar. Vernon owned the 2nd period with basically having the puck on a string as they say. Vipers passing was very smooth all night. Vipers carried the puck out of there own zone as Ryan Santana cut through center and over the Quesnel line, dropping the puck for Connor Jones, Connor made a nice pass over to his brother Kellen Jones, Kellen then made a nice move around the Mills d-man, then passing it back to Connor who then scored beating Demharter as Vernon jumped ahead 3-0 after some nice three way passing. Vernon come close to scoring once again after Ryan Santana & Connor Jones went in on the two on one, as Santana made a nice pass over to Jones, but Connor missed a wide empty goal. Mitchell Smith and Kyle Bigos made a race for the puck in the Mills zone, Smith & Bigos both hit the boards, but it was Smith who hit the ice and didnt get up, as Smith was helped off the ice and didnt return to the game. Vipers were skating circles around the Millionaires all 2nd period, Ryan DePape cut through center and then fed Cory Kane who went in for the breakaway but couldnt beat Demharter who made the nice save. Quesnel couldnt get anything going having most of the play held in there own end. Vernon dominated the 2nd up 3-0 after 40 mins of play. Vipers outshot the Millionaires 12-5.
3rd Period: Quesnel started the 3rd with an early powerplay but it was Vernon who carried most of the play and had the better scoring chances. Ryan Santana showed alot of hustle all night, carried the puck into the Millionaires zone and then made a nice move around two Quesnel defenders, cut towards the goal and was in close but instead of shooting passed the puck off to nobody as Kellen Jones was skating by on the play. Vipers kept pressing shorthanded and it paid off after Kellen Jones made a nice pass down low over to a wide open John Digness who would score into the empty net putting Vernon up 4-0 and in full control. Minutes later Ryan Demharter made his biggest save of the game sliding across the crease to rob John Digness making a big toe save keeping the puck out. Once again the solid play from the line of Connor Jones, Kellen Jones & Ryan Santana made some nice passing as Connor Jones put Vernon up 5-0. Quesnel just couldnt get anything going, it got so bad the Mills were having troubles just touching the puck even after a miss pass or shot by the Vipers. The beating continued as Cory Kane put Vernon up 6-0 after Mike Collins made a nice pass through the zone over to Kane. Vipers looked very strong all night, basically skating circles around the Mills. Late in the 3rd Mike Collins would score his 6th goal of the season after a nice pass and setup from Braden Pimm & Captain Chris Crowell. Then things got ugly after Trent Dorais hit Jordan Principalli from behind in the Mills zone, Principalli had troubles getting up, Matt Brown come flying in and ended up dropping the gloves with Dorais. Dorais was tossed from the game for fighting and checking from behind. Principalli struggled off the ice and headed to the Quesnel dressing room and didnt return. Trevor Hertz come very close to breaking Andrew Hammonds shutout with two great scoring chances in close with 1:06 remaining, but Hammond made two big saves as Hertz was left alone in front but couldnt find the back of the net. With under a minute left, Kyle Bigos & Mills Captain Taylor Rovatti would also drop the gloves. As the buzzer sounded Vernon would defeat Quesnel 7-0 winning there 4th straight hockey game. Andrew Hammond would record his first shutout this season. With the win Vernon moves into a tie for first with the Trail Smoke Eaters. Vipers outshot the Millionaires 15-11.

Ryan Santana (2 Assists) Showed lots of hustle and grit. Santana showed lots of speed and hustle all night, looking very solid on the penalty kill. Had many great scoring chances in close, as well as making some very nice passes to create scoring chances. I have really noticed Santana's hustle and speed over the last week or so, this kid is flying.
Connor Jones (2 Goals) Jones had the puck on a string all game. Connor has really stepped up his play since the return of his brother Kellen and new linemate Ryan Santana. Scored two real nice highlite real goals.
Kellen Jones (3 Assists) Jones also had the puck on a string. Nice to see Kellen get his game back after returning to the Vipers lineup last weekend. Kellen looked very solid up front, making some nice passing all game.
Braden Pimm (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Played a very strong game. Pimm is the Vipers leading scorer and has really stepped up his play over the last month.
John Digness (1 Goal) Played very well, looked very solid on the penalty kill. This kid plays with a ton of hustle and grit game after game. Digness went into the boards head first midway through the 3rd but stayed involved in the play and didnt miss a shift. This is one tough customer.
Kyle Bigos played very physical and was solid defensivly. Bigos was a rock on the Vipers blueline tonight, standing up guys at the line, looking very good on the powerplay.
Adam Thompson (1 Assist) also played very good defensivly. Thompson made a few nice heads up play on the backend. I really like the way this kid plays. A very smart smooth skating defenceman.
Top Players: (Quesnel)
Trevor Hertz had Quesnels best and only real solid scoring chances and couldnt find the back of the goal. Hertz was stopped in close once in the 1st and then had two great scoring chances in close with 1:06 remaining and couldnt beat Andrew Hammond. Hertz was the only Mills player who did much of anything tonight.
Game Thoughts: (Vernon)
Vipers looked very strong and played a solid game all night. Vernon basically had the puck on a string all night long, making the Mills look silly at times. Vipers exploded for 7 goals for the first time all year blowing out the Millionaires. This game wasnt even close and could have been alot worse as the Vipers missed an empty net, hit one crossbar as well as having some other great scoring chances in close but couldnt pull the trigger. Vernons speed and skill was by far way too over powering for Quesnel to even keep pace and it showed for the entire hockey game. The line of Connor, & Kellen Jones along with Ryan Santana was really clicking making some unreal plays all game. An overall solid effort coming from the Vipers. Since a 6-2 loss in Salmon Arm the Vipers have really turned things around and have been improving game after game. Nice to see this team start to get on a roll with 4 straight wins.
Game Thoughts: (Quesnel)
This could be a very long year for the Millionaires with an effort like tonight. Quesnel was never in tonights game, they were out worked, out hustled and out skated all night long. No offensive touch up front to even make a threat, the defence were skating circles chasing the Vipers forwards and you couldnt blame goaltender Ryan Demharter who was shelled for seven goals. I felt sorry for this kid, they didnt need to leave him in for the full game. A tough game for the Mills, very few bright spots. Vipers dominated from start to finish.

Vernon 3 Merritt 1
Vernon 3 Merritt 1
Was at tonights game as Vernon defeated Merritt 3-1 in front of 1,930 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: Just seconds off the opening draw Dustin Johnson laid out a huge elbow on Kellen Jones, knocking his helmet off, sending him to the ice. With the Vipers on the early powerplay, they didnt take advantage looking very sloppy. Vipers couldnt get any kind of offencesive attack waisting a powerplay chance. Vernon looked sharpe skating hard having most of the play deep in the Merritt zone. The Vipers moved the puck well getting some shots off but not really any solid scoring chances. Ryan DePape & Cory Kane come into the Cents zone two on one, DePape made a nice pass over to Kane, who then snuck inbehind the Merritt defence, and then put an unreal move on Harrison May but somehow Kane couldnt slide the puck inbehind the Centennials Goaltender just missing the empty net. Vernon had three early powerplays but couldnt find the back of the net, struggling early on the powerplay. The Vipers defence was having all kinds of trouble handling the puck at the blueline tonight. On the other side the Centennials wernt much of a threat, having all kinds of trouble keeping the puck and play out of there own end. Vipers best scoring chance came when Rob Short wired a shot from the top of the circle but hit the post. Cents starting goaltender Harrison May had to be sharpe facing 16 shots. Most of the 16 shots were shot right at May wich made him look good. May did have a few big saves to make but for the most part saw all of the Vernon shots. Vernon dominated the 1st having the better of the play, as the ice was still wet in some spots in the Vipers zone. Vernon come close to scoring as Kyle Bigos wired a shot from the point, and Ryan Santana tipped the point shot in front, just missing the net. Late in the period Dustin Johnson made a nice pass through the nuetral zone, Kyle Bigos made a bad pinch, as Jordan Zalba beat Bigos and then went in all alone for the breakaway, and then snapped his shot past Andrew Hammond putting Merritt up 1-0 with just 14 seconds remaining in the 1st. The Centennials were up 1-0 after 20 mins of play. Vernon outshot Merritt 16-7.

Alot of whistles wich really slowed down the play. Both teams struggled with the puck as it seemed as if neither team wanted the puck, alot of turnovers and sluggish plays through out the period. Merritt come close to going up 2-0 with a two on one but fired wide. Vernon come close to tying the game as Braden Pimm fired a shot off the post and then just minutes later John Diggness hit the post as the Vipers couldnt seem to get a bounce there way. Kevin Kraus just about cost the Vipers another goal as he coughed up the puck coming out from his own zone, Paul Forster stole the puck and went in all alone on the breakaway putting a nice move on Hammond but Hammond come up with the big pad save, Forster then got the rebound and tried to stuff the puck inbehind a down and out Hammond but Hammond somehow stretched out his right leg and just covered up the puck with his toe. Merritt played a little better come the 2nd period getting some scoring chances and trying to create some kind of an offensive attack. With just under 6 mins left Bryce Kakoske finally beat Harrison May after a nice pass from Cork Kane to tie the game 1-1. Vipers come close to going ahead 2-1 after Rob Short made a nice pass down low across the crease to John Digness who hit the bottom of the post, this was the Vipers 4th post of the night. With just over 2 mins remaining Mike Collins & Braden Pimm made some nice tic tac toe passing cutting thrrough the Cents zone, as Collins set up Braden Pimm who just tapped the puck past May as Vernon got there first lead of the game 2-1 with 1:56 left. Merritt couldnt get May out for the extra man as the Vipers 4th line of Rob Short, John Digness and Braden Pimm worked hard with some good forecheck down low, ragging alot of time off the clock, as the play come up ice the Cents would pull May for the extra attacker, with just 23 seconds remaining Ryan Aynsley rang a shot off the crossbar, Rob Short would gobble up the rebound and then carry it up ice, hitting the empty net putting Vernon up 3-1. The Vipers would win there 3rd straight defeating Merritt 3-1. Vipers outshot the Centennials 11-7.

Vernon should have put away Merritt in the 1st after getting 4 powerplays, but really struggled on 3 of them. Vipers looked good come the 1st but went to sleep in the 2nd, a very slow-sluggish 2nd period with very little excitement. Both teams put the fans to sleep with alot of whistles and stopages in play. Vipers had to work hard once again for the 2nd straight night, to get the win. Vipers come to play in the 3rd getting all kinds of chances but couldnt buy a break. Vernon needs to work on there passing, alot of blind-no look passes tonight, wich resulted in way too many turnovers. A very small crowd, alot less then the announced attendance.

Other then a few chances this team is going to struggle all season, it looks like they ride May all night and hope he can stand on his head and get the team the win, cause theres no real light at the end of the tunnel for the Cents. Merritt had all kinds of trouble creating any chances or even just carrying the play for more then a few minutes in the Vipers zone. The Centennials only chances came off Vernon turnovers.

Vernon 2 Westside 1
Was at tonights game as Vernon defeated Westside 2-1 in front od 2,064 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: The Vipers welcomed back Kellen Jones after Jones was out of the teams lineup with an injury. A good entertaining start to tonights game with some good flow at both ends of the rink. Both teams were skating hard, with some good jump. Just 3 minutues into the game Vernon got the first solid scoring chance after Ryan DePape made a nice pass at the Warriors blueline feeding Cory Kane who went in on the breakaway but was stopped by former Burnaby Express goaltender Kevin Jebson. Michael Quinn made a nice pass off the rush breaking out of the Warriors zone, Jordan Gagne broke down the left wing and then wired a high shot over Andrew Hammond putting Westside up 1-0 scoring on there first shot on net. This goal seemed to suck the life right out of the Vipers as it was all Warriors for the remainder of the 1st. Vernon looked lifeless, not hitting, not skating and lossing most of the one on one battles. Westside on the other hand was skating hard, playing with that typical hard nosed forecheck they always bring to the games. Warriors came close to going up 2-0 after d-man Cory Pritz rang a shot off the post. Former Westside Warrior & Surrey Eagle Andrew Hammond had to be sharpe coming up with atleast three to four good saves in close, coming from the slot. Vipers couldnt seem to generate any kind of an attack and was having all kinds of troubles clearing there zone. Westside carried the better of the play out playing & out hustling the Vipers for most of the period. Warriors were up 1-0 after 20 mins of play. Westside outshot Vernon 8-6.
2nd Period: Vernon ended the 1st period on the penalty kill and then early started the 2nd period on the penalty kill but managed to kill off the minor. First few minutes were a little sluggish to start the 2nd but Vernon seemed to finally generate some attack down in the Warriors zone with some good forecheck by Kellen & Connor Jones along with new linemate Ryan Santana. Vernons best scoring chance came when John Digness showed some good hustle down low, then cut out front and got a quick shot off from the slot as Jebson kicked out the shot with his pad. Vernon played much better come the 2nd but still didnt come up with a solid 20 min performance. Vernon didnt seem to get any bounces after having the better of the play for a good 7-8 mins midway through the period. Westside had some good chances of there own but couldnt take advantage, getting a good three to four odd man rushes. Justin Schultz & Vince Mihalek went in two on one, with Schultz keeping the puck but firing it high and way over the Vernon net. Kyle Singleton & Jordan Gagne had another two on one later in the 2nd but Hammond made a nice save on the play. With just 23 seconds to go, Viper d-man Adam Thompson would find the back of the net to get the Vipers on the scoreboard tying the game 1-1. The puck hit something in front on its way towards the net, as the puck changed directions and fooled Kevin Jebson. It was tied 1-1 after 40 mins of play. Vernon outshot Westside 14-7.
3rd Period: Just a few minutes into the final period with the Vipers breaking up ice, Kyle Bigos dropped the gloves with Warriors Captain Ron Kelly. Westside would come out of the fight with a 4 min powerplay. Vernons penalty kill was very solid not allowing the Warriors any room to set up. Vipers come close to scoring shorthanded as Connor Jones skated into the Westside zone with the puck, made a njice move around the Warrior d-man, cutting towards the net but was stopped in close by Jebson. Vernon managed to excape, killing off the 4 min penalty. Shortly after killing off the 4 min powerplay, Steve Tresierra would drop the gloves with Brett Howe. Both fights seemed to give the Vipers life and some energy as they fed off the crowd really coming together and picking up there play. This was a very tight checking period with very little scoring chances. Both teams were playing with caution as Vernon had the trap setup not giving the Warriors anyroom to setup or create chances. With now the Vipers on a powerplay, Bryce Kakoske made a nice pass down low, as Ryan Santana was on his back in the slot, but somehow managed to get off a shot while on his back, and would beat Jebson putting Vernon up 2-1 with there first lead of the hockey game. Some real nice passing and hard work on the powerplay made this goal happen. The final 8 mins of the game was like a playoff game, both teams were playing man to man, not giving any room. Vipers played very well defensively down the stretch and would not allow Westside to get past center and generate any kind of an offensive attack. The Warriors were having all kinds of trouble getting the puck in deep, to try and tie the game. Vipers defence looked and played very strong in the final period. The Warriors would pull Jebson for the extra man with 1:08 remaining but couldnt generate any offence, with just seconds remaining Westside came close to getting a two on zero breakaway but the play was called offside. Connor Jones (1 Assist) Played with alot of jump, looking very solid down low and in close. Andrew Hammond played very well all night, kept the Vipers in the game at times in the first two periods.
Braden Pimm played very hard, looked very solid tonight. Won alot of key draws.

Jordan Gidaro is a smaller kid but showed alot of hustle all game. Was involved in the play alot in the first two periods.

Vipers lacked speed and showed no hustle or emotion for most of the 1st. Vipers wernt hitting, skating or winning any battles all 1st period and were lucky to come out only down 1-0. Vernon picked up there play come the 2nd playing a little better for half of the period and then looked very good come the 3rd. I really liked the teams defensive play come the 2nd & 3rd periods. Very effective. Vipers won alot of faceoffs tonight, looking very good in the circle. This was a very tight checking game with very little room to move or create chances. One of the more less physical-emotional Vernon-Westside games as seen in past years. Vernon needs to work on giving up so many odd man rushes, gave up a good three to four in the 2nd period alone. The defence seemed to settle down come the 3rd period. Good to see Kellen Jones return to the lineup, Connor plays much better along side his brother. Nice to see the guys gut out a hard nosed 2-1 playoff type win tonight.

Warriors had many odd man rushes come the 2nd but couldnt capitolise. Westside gets some good chances in close but misses on many of them, shooting high and wide missing the net most of the time. This was kind of a different style of game the Warriors brought to town tonight, usally when these two teams meet up guys like Brad Plumton, Trevor Bailey, Joel Woznikoski and Garrett Watson are always getting in guys faces, doing alot of chirpping, stirring the pot etc but you didnt see much if any of that tonight. Ron Kelly, was very quiet tonight. Always has a good game vs Vernon. I noticed the Warriors coaching staff all stands down in the tunnel during the nathional anthem, and then joins the team on the bench come the start of the game. I disagree with this, I have seen a few other teams coaches get away with this and think the league should put a stop to it.

Was at tonights game as Vernon defeated Westside 2-1 in front od 2,064 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: The Vipers welcomed back Kellen Jones after Jones was out of the teams lineup with an injury. A good entertaining start to tonights game with some good flow at both ends of the rink. Both teams were skating hard, with some good jump. Just 3 minutues into the game Vernon got the first solid scoring chance after Ryan DePape made a nice pass at the Warriors blueline feeding Cory Kane who went in on the breakaway but was stopped by former Burnaby Express goaltender Kevin Jebson. Michael Quinn made a nice pass off the rush breaking out of the Warriors zone, Jordan Gagne broke down the left wing and then wired a high shot over Andrew Hammond putting Westside up 1-0 scoring on there first shot on net. This goal seemed to suck the life right out of the Vipers as it was all Warriors for the remainder of the 1st. Vernon looked lifeless, not hitting, not skating and lossing most of the one on one battles. Westside on the other hand was skating hard, playing with that typical hard nosed forecheck they always bring to the games. Warriors came close to going up 2-0 after d-man Cory Pritz rang a shot off the post. The 19 year old North Vancouver product has spent parts of the last two seasons with both the Merritt Centennials and Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The Vipers would like to welcome Graeme to the organization. With the acquisition of Gordon, the Vipers have reassigned Mark Segal to the Richmond Sockeyes. Thoughs On Vipers-Centennials Trade:
The Vipers website didnt mention who was heading to Merritt in this trade? Im gonna guess future considerations. I really like this trade, Ive always been a big fan of Gordon. When he was with Salmon Arm, he always played the Vipers strong, and looked very impressive. Andrew Hammond has started in all but one game this season, and in this league you need a backup with experience that can come into a game or start a game where the team can depend on you with confidence. In Mark Segal who was just 17 yrs old, had no Jr experience and I think was ubable to give the Vipers that experience they need in a backup. I wish Mark all the best! In Gordon now you have a veteran goaltender who is 19 yrs old and now able at being the teams #1 goaltender next season. Im guessing Gordon will get his first start against his former team (Merritt) Saturday night. I wonder what ever happend with Kraymer Barnstable who the Vipers had rumored to have aquired from the WHL Vancouver Giants?

There was probably nobody happier with the Vernon Vipers’ four-goal first period in last Sunday’s 6-2 win over the Penticton Vees than fourth-liners Trent Dorais and Sahir Gill.To them, it meant extra ice time, and they made the most of it.Playing on a line with Vipers’ veteran Robbie Short, the two youngsters showcased their speed, which culminated in a beauty tic-tac-toe goal.“The defence couldn’t seem to handle our speed, and we tried to make the most of it,” said Gill, 16, who played last season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton.“You feel more comfortable out there trying to do something offensively when you know you’ve got a bit of a cushion.”Not only do Gill and Dorais, 17, play on the same line, they’re billeting together, too.“It makes it a lot easier being linemates to go along with being roommates,” said Gill, adding they haven’t had any major fights yet.“Living with someone who’s been there before and knows how to break you into things and what you should and shouldn’t do, espcially around the locker room, so you don’t get into trouble.”Vipers’ head coach Mark Ferner was very complimentary of the two speedsters.“We feel like Sahir (one goal, one assist in seven games) is going to be a very good player in this league,” said Ferner, adding they were great at creating momentum on the Vipers’ recent road trip. “He doesn’t play like your typical 16-year-old.“Trent’s (2A in seven games) more of an energy guy, a straight-line guy who skates very well.“When you’re younger at this level, you need more direction as to what their expectations are and what their roles are.“Everything has to be earned as far as ice time is concerned. I have no problems putting them out in situations depending on where we’re at in the game, but I have the utmost confidence in all our players that they’re going to go out and do the right thing.”Dorais, who recorded 3+5 in 29 games last season, is enjoying his increased role.“I was a little more nervous last year than I was this year,” said Dorais. “Confidence was a major factor coming into this year. Was at todays game as Vernon defeated Penticton 6-2 in front of 1,809 fans at the Wesbild Center.
Before the game during warm up Vipers Kyle Bigos, & Captain Chris Crowell were yapping back & forth at center ice with Vees Anthony Perdicaro & Elias Grossman. As warm up was wrapping up Bigos & Perdicaro stopped at center ice and were beaking back & forth, as things started to heat up.
1st Period: To start the game Chris Crowell, & Kyle Bigos from the Vipers along with Vees, Anthony Perdicaro & Elias Grossman were all given 10 min misconducts for the display during the teams warm up. Vipers got off to the quick start, getting the play in deep, with some good puck control deep in the Vees zone. Minutes into the opening period Penticton would get into penalty trouble and it cost them, after some nice passing between Ryan Santana & John Digness, Adam Thompson snuck in from the point and roofed a high shot from the circle over Anthony Borelli putting the Vipers up 1-0. The Vees would head back to the penalty box just minutes later and once again The Vipers would make them pay after Adam Thompson made a nice pass over to Bryce Kakoske who beat Borelli with a soft goal between the fivehole, as Vernon was up 2-0 and in full control. Vernon was skating hard, looking very good in the early goings, with some good speed and puck movement. The Vipers were also playing physical laying out some big checks through out the 1st period. Cory Kane tried going in splitting the Vees Defence but was stopped, Bryce Kakoske picked up the loose puck and then made a nice move around the Penticton D-man, making a nice pass through the crease where Ryan DePape beat Borelli putting Vernon up 3-0. Penticton didnt get off to a good start, looking very disorganised and having all kinds of trouble staying out of the penalty box. The Vees didnt record there first shot on goal till 7 mins into the period. Once again the Vees were playing very undisaplined all afternoon, taking another minor and the Vipers would head back to the powerplay. Chris Crowell fed Braden Pimm who then found Kyle Bigos at the point, where Bigos blasted a shot which beat Borelli as the Vipers were up 4-0, scoring three PP goals. Vees starting goaltender Anthony Borelli looked very average at best, allowing two soft goals. Vernon was by far the better of the two teams, carrying the better of the play for most of the period. Vipers were up 4-0 after 20 mins of play. Vernon outshot Penticton 14-5.

The Vipers seem to have troubles come the 2nd period and it showed once again today, Vernon struggled in the early goings as the Vees got off to the quick start, having the better of the play. With very little good scoring chances in the 1st, Penticton come very close within the first few mins of the 2nd to getting on the board, but David Andreassen fired a shot off the post. Vernon looked slow and didnt have the jump they had in the 1st period. The Vees had some good chances in close but Andrew Hammond looked very solid. With the Vees now on a powerplay, they would make the Vipers pay after getting the puck in deep, with some good hustle down low, Brent Vandenberg & Ryan Viselli did all the work down low, banging away at the loose puck, as Vernons defence couldnt clear the zone, after Hammond come up with two saves down low, Vees veteran forward Anthony Perdicaro slid the puck under Hammonds pad on the third scoring chance, as penticton would finally get on the board, cutting the Vernon lead to 4-1. Vipers didnt look like the same team in the first half of the 2nd but did seem to get back some of the play in the 2nd half, Chris Crowell come close to putting Vernon up 5-1 as the puck slid through the crease after a scramble in front. Sean Bonar was tested a few times in close was but was quick on his feet, kicking out a few shots wich were fired from the point or in the slot. Penticton come close once again but this time Anthony Perdicaro would ring a shot off the crossbar as he had Hammond beat. Vernon would jump ahead 5-1 on another powerplay chance, Bryce Kakoske took a shot from the slot wich looked to be going wide, somehow the puck would hit Braden Pimm at the side of the net, Pimm would recover the puck and then sneak it around from the side of the goal, and tuck it inbehind Sean Bonar, as the Vipers would get there fourth powerplay goal of the afternoon. The Vees just couldnt seem to get the bounces this period as once again come up with a great scoring chance in close, as Captain Brent Vandenberg was in close but was stopped by Andrew Hammond. Penticton had the better chances and carried the better of the play come the 2nd period. Vernon was up 5-1 after 40 mins of play. Shots were even 13 each.
3rd Period: Some sloppy play to start the final period of the game after both teams couldnt seem to get much flow going. Alot of whistles early with some pushing & shoving after each stopage in play. Both teams had some scoring chances but nothing over the top. With the score 5-1 you had to wonder if both teams just wanted to get todays game over with. Vernon would put this game away just four minutes into the 3rd after some nice tic tack toe passing between, Sahir Gill, Rob Short & Trent Dorais. Gill & Dorais made a few nice passes back & forth before feeding Short who beat Bonar. After the Vipers couldnt clear the zone, Anthony Perdicaro fed Captain Brent Vandenberg in the slot who would beat Andrew Hammond cutting the lead to 6-2. Things started to heat up as Rob Short was heading off for a change, Ryan Viselli gave Short a shot to the head, and then wrapped his arm around Short, putting him in a head lock, before Short got loose and gave a few shots back at Viselli. Mark Ferner was furious on the play as Kris Hartly didnt see the play, and gave the Vipers the extra minor. Ferner was down on the Vipers bench yelling at Hartly. Just mins later Chris Crowell dropped the gloves with Curtis McKenzie. With just under five mins remaining, Anthony Perdicaro skated by the Vipers bench and must have done something as the Vipers bench erupted (I didnt see) as Ryan DePape then skated over towards the two benches and crosschecked Perdicaro, then giving him a shot to the head, as a few Penticton players jumped into the action. Some pushing & shoving took place in front of both team benches, when Cody Ikkala come skating over towards the Vees bench and then dropping the gloves with Joey Holka. Both benches started yapping back & forth as things started to get heated up between these old two rivals. Vipers Assistant Coach Jason Williamson then stepped down off the bench, coming over to the gate between the two benches and was yelling towards the Vees bench. This is when Pentictons GM & Head Coach Fred Harbinson come down over towards the two benches getting in Williamsons face, yelling at him. Harbinson then pushed Williamson before Williamson pushed Harbinson back, Kris Hartly then skated over breaking up the two Coaches. Both Harbinson & Williamson were tossed from the game. On the play, Kyle Bigos, & Braden Pimm were give 10 min misconducts for the Vipers, and Anthony Perdicaro, & Elias Grossman were give 10 min misconducts for the Vees. As the game resumed play, David Andreassen tried laying out a huge elbow on the play, as they play stopped in front of Andrew Hammond, Andreassen started pushing & shoving as it didnt take long before Steve Tresierra dropped the gloves Andreassen. On the play Vees Travis Oulette was given a 10 min misconduct. In the final two mins of the game, Pentictons bench was empty with only a handfull of players remaining on the bench. The Vipers would defeat the Vees 6-2. Penticton outshot Vernon 13-9.

Adam Thompson (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Looked very solid on the Vipers blueline defensivly and offensivly.
Andrew Hammond looked very solid between the pipes for Vernon. Hammonds saves early in the 2nd kept the Vipers in the game, a goal here or there and the Vees are right back in the game.
Bryce Kakoske (1 Goal & 2 Assists) Looked very good up front especially in the first two periods. Kakoske played alot on the backend when the Vipers were on the powerplay. Made some unreal passes today.
Kyle Bigos (1 Goal) Played a solid physical game on the point. Bigos was in the face of many Penticton players this afternoon.
The Vipers 4th line of veteran Rob Short (1 Goal), Sahir Gill (1 Assist) & Trent Dorais (1 Assist) saw a ton of icetime in the 3rd, played very well and matched up very well against the Vees 4th line. Braden Pimm (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Played with alot of emotion and showed good hustle through out todays game. Has looked very solid the last three games for Vernon.

Garrett Milan showed alot of hustle all afternoon, one of the smaller kids on the ice today, but stood tall, played physical and was always involved in the play. Never quit, worked hard.
Brent Vandenberg (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Looked very good for the Vees, would have scored two goals but was stopped by Hammond in the 2nd period on a nice scoring play.

Vipers looked very solid in the 1st, scoring three PP goals. Vernon had good jump, lots of speed and was skating hard. This was one if not the best period I have seen this team play. Once again the team struggled in the 2nd, but were lucky Penticton only scored the one goal. Vipers played well, nice to see the guys stand up for one another come the 3rd period. This is a great long time rivalry and it showed tonight, some good heated battles. This was the first meeting between these two teams since Game 7 of last years playoffs. Vernon played very physical all afternoon, knocking the Vees around for most of the game. Vipers with some slick passing on a few of the goals tonight. Vernons powerplay was clicking and looked very deadly. This was a big test for Vernon against one of the best teams in the league and they faired well.

Got off to a slow start and couldnt stay out of the penalty box. Penticton played very undisaplined all afternoon, taking some dumb penalties and it cost them. I dont think Fred Harbinson will be pleased with his clubs effort today, a poor performance in goal from Anthony Borelli giving up two soft goals. This is a much different hockey club I have seen from past years, Penticton didnt hit much at all, wasnt involved in the play for most of the game and just didnt have that hard work ethic like teams in the past. A pretty poor performance from the Vees this afternoon. This is the teams 3rd game in 3 days, all on the road, coming home with two wins. Too bad such a small crowd missed a good game.

Before the game during warm up Vipers Kyle Bigos, & Captain Chris Crowell were yapping back & forth at center ice with Vees Anthony Perdicaro & Elias Grossman. As warm up was wrapping up Bigos & Perdicaro stopped at center ice and were beaking back & forth, as things started to heat up.
1st Period: To start the game Chris Crowell, & Kyle Bigos from the Vipers along with Vees, Anthony Perdicaro & Elias Grossman were all given 10 min misconducts for the display during the teams warm up. Vipers got off to the quick start, getting the play in deep, with some good puck control deep in the Vees zone. Minutes into the opening period Penticton would get into penalty trouble and it cost them, after some nice passing between Ryan Santana & John Digness, Adam Thompson snuck in from the point and roofed a high shot from the circle over Anthony Borelli putting the Vipers up 1-0. The Vees would head back to the penalty box just minutes later and once again The Vipers would make them pay after Adam Thompson made a nice pass over to Bryce Kakoske who beat Borelli with a soft goal between the fivehole, as Vernon was up 2-0 and in full control. Vernon was skating hard, looking very good in the early goings, with some good speed and puck movement. The Vipers were also playing physical laying out some big checks through out the 1st period. Cory Kane tried going in splitting the Vees Defence but was stopped, Bryce Kakoske picked up the loose puck and then made a nice move around the Penticton D-man, making a nice pass through the crease where Ryan DePape beat Borelli putting Vernon up 3-0. Penticton didnt get off to a good start, looking very disorganised and having all kinds of trouble staying out of the penalty box. The Vees didnt record there first shot on goal till 7 mins into the period. Trail 5 Vernon 2
Trail 5 Vernon 2
Was at tonights game as Trail defeated Vernon 5-2 in front of 2,262 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: Both teams got off to a quick start, a very fast paced period with very few whistles or stopages in play. The ref let both teams play with some good action at both ends. Vipers did have the better of the play early in the 1st but had very few scoring chances. A physical period with both teams laying out some solid checks. The Smokies best scoring chance came with a scramble in the Vipers zone, in front of Andrew Hammond. With Hammond down and a group of players in his crease the Smoke Eaters got a few wacks at the puck, but Hammond was there to makde two big pad saves. Vernons best scoring chance came when Kevin Kraus fired a shot from the point, wich was deflected on the way towards the net, but somehow Trails Paul Barclay come up with the big toe save keeping the puck out. Trail would open the scoring after Vernon coughed up the puck deep in there own end, CJ LeGassic stole the puck in the corner, & fed Nick Sandor who wired a wicked wrist shot high over Andrew Hammonds shoulder, finding the top shelf putting the Smoke Eaters up 1-0. A very entertaining period with lots of flow coming at both ends of the rink. Trail was up 1-0 after 20 mins of play, shots on goal were even 9-9.
2nd Period: Just 27 seconds into the 2nd the Vipers couldnt clear the zone and it cost them, JF Boisvert & Paul Mailey worked hard in front, banging away at the loose puck, as the puck went to Ryan Bulach who beat Hammond who was down and out on the play, as the Smoke Eaters jumped out to the 2-0 lead. Off the faceoff just 10 seconds later Captain Chris Crowell & Braden Pimm with some nice passing, inwich Pimm beat Barclay with a soft goal as the Vipers were back in the game, cutting the Trail lead to 2-1. The Smoke Eaters regrouped and just two mins later with some good forecheck in the Vernon zone, the Vipers would once again cough up the puck, as Paul Mailey would feed a wide open JF Boisvert in the slot who beat Hammond, as the Smokies were up 3-1 regaining there two goal lead. This goal seemed to take the life out of the Vipers, after Trails forecheck and hardwork put them back in the drivers seat. Over the next 5-10 mins Vernon looked flat as the Smoke Eaters had full control of the play looking very strong with the two goal lead. Just before the midway mark Chris Crowell would drop the gloves with rookie Jadon Porterfield, in a very solid scrap. This fight seemed to give the Vipers some life, as Vernon would get the play in deep in the Trail zone, and come up with a few solid scoring chances but couldnt beat Barclay. Vipers had two powerplay chances but couldnt capitalize in there chances. Paul Barclay played well looking very confident between the pipes. Vipers John Digness had a great chance to get back in the game but wired his shot off the crossbar. I dont think nobody has hit more posts then Vernons John Digness, Digness has hit a few posts-crossbar this season. Vernon would manage to beat the veteran goaltender, as Braden Pimm would score his 2nd goal of the night, going fivehole on Barclay cutting the Trail lead to 3-2. Another physical period with both teams once again playing the body. Late in the period Patrick Martin would beat Hammond as Trail once again regained the two goal lead. This wasnt a great period for the Vipers as the Smoke Eaters were the better team, playing with loads of jump and energy. Trail won all the races and battles along the boards, always coming out with the puck. This Trail team is a very hardworking team. Trail was up 4-2 after 40 mins of play. The Vipers outshot the Smokies 18-13.
3rd Period: Vipers best scoring chance came early when Ryan Santana went end to end with some good moves cutting through the Trail zone, but was stopped by Barclay in close. The Smoke Eaters played a typical road 3rd period, sitting back, playing a solid defensive game, not giving the Vipers any room or space to move or create chances. Once the puck was fired in deep, Trail would have all 5 players up high, giving Vernon all kinds of trouble trying to break out of there own end. The Vipers didnt get many great scoring chances as they had all kinds of trouble with the solid defensive play of the Smokies. Give credit to goaltender Paul Barclay who also played well in goal tonight. This kid saw most of the shots, looking very confident. The Vipers would get a late powerplay with just under 4 mins to go but couldnt find the back of the net. Just under one minute remaining the Vipers would pull Andrew Hammond, for the extra man but couldnt get anything setup. The Smoke Eaters would get control of a loose puck as Nick Sandor would hit the empty net putting Trail up 5-2. The Smokies worked very hard, getting the much deserved win. As the buzzer sounded Trails bench poured onto the ice, as you could hear the players shouting and screaming, looking very excited with the 5-3 win. Trail would outshoot Vernon 10-8.

Braden Pimm (2 Goals) was by far the Vipers best player. Pimm worked hard and played very well, creating some good chances. Pimm showed alot of hustle on every shift. Kyle Bigos played a solid defensive game on the Vipers backend. Bigos played physical and looked very good ofensively.
Top Players: (Trail)
Paul Barclay played very well between the pipes only giving up two goals. Barclay is quick on his feet and plays with alot of confidence. Always seemed to know where the puck was, even on a few shots that took some odd bounces. Ryan Bulach (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Played very strong up front for the Smokies. JF Boisvert (1 Goal & 2 Assists) Looked very good up front, this kid seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Created alot of scoring chances down low. Paul Mailey (2 Assists) was impressive up front for the Smoke Eaters. Mailey worked hard and was always buzzing around the Vernon net. Jadon Porterfield is one tough customer, this kid is big and likes the physical play. Took on Chris Crowell and looked very impressive. Always involved in the physical play.
Game Thoughts: (Vernon)
I dont think the Vipers played bad, they just didnt play a full 60 mins. After a very entertaining 1st the Vipers started the 2nd flat and it cost them, giving up 2 goals just 3 mins into the period. Vipers looked slow and sluggish to start the 2nd. Vipers were out skated and out worked for most of the middle fram and couldnt recover after going down two goals. Not much room to create chances in the 3rd, with Trail playing a solid defenisve 3rd the Vipers couldnt manage much for scoring. You have to wonder if they were looking ahead at tomorrows game vs Penticton?

I was very impressed with the Smokies. This is by far the best well rounded looking hockey team Trail has put on the ice in many years. Coming into tonights game I didnt know much on the Smoke Eaters, this team is very quick, hard working and physical team. Solid Goaltending, very strong defensivly and can put the puck in the net. Trail come to play tonight and it showed on the scoreboard. Give full credits to Coach Ingram and the players on a very well played hockey game. The Smokies out hustled and out worked the Vipers in the 2nd. Trail was very strong once up with a two goal lead. This team never quit and played an excellent game tonight.

Vernons best scoring chance came when Kevin Kraus fired a shot from the point, wich was deflected on the way towards the net, but somehow Trails Paul Barclay come up with the big toe save keeping the puck out. Trail would open the scoring after Vernon coughed up the puck deep in there own end, CJ LeGassic stole the puck in the corner, & fed Nick Sandor who wired a wicked wrist shot high over Andrew Hammonds shoulder, finding the top shelf putting the Smoke Eaters up 1-0. A very entertaining period with lots of flow coming at both ends of the rink. Trail was up 1-0 after 20 mins of play, shots on goal were even 9-9.
2nd Period: Just 27 seconds into the 2nd the Vipers couldnt clear the zone and it cost them, JF Boisvert & Paul Mailey worked hard in front, banging away at the loose puck, as the puck went to Ryan Bulach who beat Hammond who was down and out on the play, as the Smoke Eaters jumped out to the 2-0 lead. The Smoke Eaters regrouped and just two mins later with some good forecheck in the Vernon zone, the Vipers would once again cough up the puck, as Paul Mailey would feed a wide open JF Boisvert in the slot who beat Hammond, as the Smokies were up 3-1 regaining there two goal lead. This goal seemed to take the life out of the Vipers, after Trails forecheck and hardwork put them back in the drivers seat. Over the next 5-10 mins Vernon looked flat as the Smoke Eaters had full control of the play looking very strong with the two goal lead. Just before the midway mark Chris Crowell would drop the gloves with rookie Jadon Porterfield, in a very solid scrap. This fight seemed to give the Vipers some life, as Vernon would get the play in deep in the Trail zone, and come up with a few solid scoring chances but couldnt beat Barclay. Vipers had two powerplay chances but couldnt capitalize in there chances. Paul Barclay played well looking very confident between the pipes. Vipers John Digness had a great chance to get back in the game but wired his shot off the crossbar. I dont think nobody has hit more posts then Vernons John Digness, Digness has hit a few posts-crossbar this season. Vernon would manage to beat the veteran goaltender, as Braden Pimm would score his 2nd goal of the night, going fivehole on Barclay cutting the Trail lead to 3-2. Another physical period with both teams once again playing the body. Late in the period Patrick Martin would beat Hammond as Trail once again regained the two goal lead. This wasnt a great period for the Vipers as the Smoke Eaters were the better team, playing with loads of jump and energy. Trail won all the races and battles along the boards, always coming out with the puck. This Trail team is a very hardworking team. Trail was up 4-2 after 40 mins of play. The Vipers outshot the Smokies 18-13.
3rd Period: Vipers best scoring chance came early when Ryan Santana went end to end with some good moves cutting through the Trail zone, but was stopped by Barclay in close. The Smoke Eaters played a typical road 3rd period, sitting back, playing a solid defensive game, not giving the Vipers any room or space to move or create chances. Once the puck was fired in deep, Trail would have all 5 players up high, giving Vernon all kinds of trouble trying to break out of there own end. The Vipers didnt get many great scoring chances as they had all kinds of trouble with the solid defensive play of the Smokies. Give credit to goaltender Paul Barclay who also played well in goal tonight. This kid saw most of the shots, looking very confident. The Vipers would get a late powerplay with just under 4 mins to go but couldnt find the back of the net. Just under one minute remaining the Vipers would pull Andrew Hammond, for the extra man but couldnt get anything setup. The Smoke Eaters would get control of a loose puck as Nick Sandor would hit the empty net putting Trail up 5-2. The Smokies worked very hard, getting the much deserved win. As the buzzer sounded Trails bench poured onto the ice, as you could hear the players shouting and screaming, looking very excited with the 5-3 win. Trail would outshoot Vernon 10-8.
Top Players: (Vernon)
Braden Pimm (2 Goals) was by far the Vipers best player. Pimm worked hard and played very well, creating some good chances. Pimm showed alot of hustle on every shift. Kyle Bigos played a solid defensive game on the Vipers backend. Bigos played physical and looked very good ofensively.
Top Players: (Trail)
Paul Barclay played very well between the pipes only giving up two goals. Barclay is quick on his feet and plays with alot of confidence. Always seemed to know where the puck was, even on a few shots that took some odd bounces. Ryan Bulach (1 Goal & 1 Assist) Played very strong up front for the Smokies. JF Boisvert (1 Goal & 2 Assists) Looked very good up front, this kid seemed to be in the right place at the right time. Created alot of scoring chances down low. Paul Mailey (2 Assists) was impressive up front for the Smoke Eaters. Mailey worked hard and was always buzzing around the Vernon net. Jadon Porterfield is one tough customer, this kid is big and likes the physical play. Took on Chris Crowell and looked very impressive. Always involved in the physical play.

I dont think the Vipers played bad, they just didnt play a full 60 mins. After a very entertaining 1st the Vipers started the 2nd flat and it cost them, giving up 2 goals just 3 mins into the period. Vipers looked slow and sluggish to start the 2nd. Vipers were out skated and out worked for most of the middle fram and couldnt recover after going down two goals. Not much room to create chances in the 3rd, with Trail playing a solid defenisve 3rd the Vipers couldnt manage much for scoring. You have to wonder if they were looking ahead at tomorrows game vs Penticton?

I was very impressed with the Smokies. This is by far the best well rounded looking hockey team Trail has put on the ice in many years. Coming into tonights game I didnt know much on the Smoke Eaters, this team is very quick, hard working and physical team. Solid Goaltending, very strong defensivly and can put the puck in the net. Trail come to play tonight and it showed on the scoreboard. Give full credits to Coach Ingram and the players on a very well played hockey game. The Smokies out hustled and out worked the Vipers in the 2nd. Trail was very strong once up with a two goal lead. This team never quit and played an excellent game tonight.

Was at tonights game as Salmon Arm defeated Vernon 7-2 in front 1,312 fans at the Sunwave Center.
1st Period: This is the start of a five game road trip for Vernon & they didnt get off to a good start. Off the opening draw, Captain Chris Crowell was hit hard almost going over into the Backs bench, Crowell lost his stick and couldnt recover fast enough to get back into the play, the play went up ice as Conor Morrison cut hard towards the net, getting a shot off, Andrew Hammond made the big pad save but couldnt handle the rebound as Keenan Desmet gobbled up the loose puck putting past Hammond as the Silverbacks jumped out to the early lead just 15 seconds into the game. Vernon responded well, off the next faceoff the Vipers got the puck deep in the Backs zone, as Kyle Bigos fed Connor Jones who beat Bryan Gillis tying the game up 1-1 just 20 seconds later. Not much flow in the early goings with some scrambly play at either ends of the rink. Alot of whistles-stopages in play resulted in a slow pace 1st period. Salmon Arms best scoring chance came when Kyle Bigos went for the puck and not the body, Bigos couldnt handle the puck as Mark Zengerle skated by Bigos, come down the right wing and wired a shot from the circle but rang it off the far post. The Vipers best scoring chance came when Bryce Kakoske made a nice pass from the side boards, hitting a wide open Braden Pimm, but Pimm would hit the post on the play. Overall not many great scoring chances as most of the shots were from the slot with very little bodies in front, both goaltenders seemed to see most of the shots. The Silverbacks were playing physical, laying out some good checks, and always finishing there checks, as Vernon on the other hand was shying away from the physical play, not getting involved. The final minute of the period took wich seemed to be a very long time with almost a whistle every few seconds, with just 2.1 seconds remaining in the 1st Mark Zengerle won the draw deep in the Vipers zone, getting the puck over to a wide open Conor Morrison who would find the empty net as the puck went in at the buzzer giving the Backs a 2-1 lead with no time left on the clock. Vernon should have never allowed the Backs to win the draw, let alone score with 2.1 seconds left. Both Vernon D-men left Morrison wide open and untouched. The Silverbacks were up 2-1 after 20 mins of play. Salmon Arm outshot Vernon 10-8.

Salmon Arm had loads of jump having the better of the play as Vernon looked very slow and sluggish having all kinds of trouble in there own end. The Backs took advantage of the Vipers slow start and with some very nice three way passing, Salmon Arm would jump ahead 3-1 after Kennan Desmet, Conor Morrison & Mark Zengerle with some tic tac toe passing, Zengerle beat Hammond as the Vipers were caught just standing around. Kevin Kraus coughed up the puck in the neutral zone as Mark Zengerle beat Kraus, stole the puck and then went in on the parcial breakaway but was stopped by Hammond, the play come back the other way, as Sahir Gill would break down the wing on a parcial breakaway but was stopped by Gillis. The Silverbacks kept up the presure pouring it on getting all kinds of room to move and create scoring chances, as the Backs were buzzing around the Vernon zone. Salmon Arm would go up 4-1 after Sam Micthell stepped over the blueline and took wich seemed to be a weak shot towards the net, somehow eluded Hammond wich looked to have missplaced it as the puck dropped and went under Hammonds glove. This was the first soft goal Hammond has given up all season, as Hammond was pulled from the game, giving up 4 goals on just 15 shots, rookie backup Mark Segal came into the game in just his 2nd BCHL game. It seem to matter who was in goal for Vernon as the Silverbacks were getting a powerplay, Gillis went to the bench for the extra man, as the Vipers couldnt touch the puck to stop the play, the Backs moved the puck well down low, wich seemed to be passed around for a good minute before Mark Zengerle would score his 2nd goal of the night sliding the puck past Mark Segal as the Silverbacks were up 5-1 and in full control. Mark Ferner finally decided to call a timeout with the Vipers down 5-1. Ferners timeout seemed to give his troops some life as Vernon responded finally getting the puck deep into the Backs zone, cyclying the puck well down low, and now creating some chances. The Vipers moved the puck well, and did get some chances but Bryan Gillis was there to come up with the save. Gillis made his biggest save of the night, coming up with a big glove save. Around 5 m mins left in the period Vernon would get one past Gillis as Kory Roy & Rob Short did all the hard work in the corner and then fed Mike Collins who would score his 3rd of the year cutting the lead to 5-2. Vernon now had the edge in play after dominating the last 4-5 mins with some good hard work, but just 3 mins later Salmon Arm would once again find the back of the net after Mark Zengerle made a nice pass over to Keenan Desmet who beat Segal as the Backs would score 4 goals in the 2nd and were up 6-2 after 40 mins of play. Shots were even 15 each.
3rd Period: With the Silverbacks on the powerplay, the Vipers gave the Backs way too much time and room to setup, and it cost them as just 52 seconds into the 3rd veteran D-man, Matt Grassi had all day to wire his shot from the point putting Salmon Arm up 7-2. This seemed to put the game away as both teams didnt seem to have much drive after the 7th Silverbacks goal. Both teams seemed to just want to let the clock wind down and go home. Some back & forth play at both ends but very little scoring chances. With Kevin Kraus heading to the penalty box, Kraus mouthed off to the ref so was rewarded with a 10 min misconduct, with under 10 mins to go in the game, Kraus headed to the Vipers dressing room for the early shower. Not much excitement in the final period as the Backs would defeat Vernon for the 2nd straight game blowing out Vernon 7-2.
Top Players: (Vernon)
Mike Collins (1 Goal) Played well, this kid has the potential but just needs sometime to get his confidence going, needs some work on his skating as well as adding that edge to his game. I do see a future with Collins.
Top Players: (Salmon Arm)
The line of Conor Morrison, (1 Goal & 3 Assists) Mark Zengerle (2 Goals & 2 Assists) & Keenan Desmet (2 Goals & 2 Assists) was by far the best players for Salmon Arm. This line was basically untouchable, the Vipers gave these kids way too much time & space all night, they were able to walk in the slot get a shot off, and collect the rebound without being touched. Zengerle has some wheels and was flying all game, put on a clinic on the Vipers defence. Had a few great scoring chances. Desmet scored one real nice goal, this kid isnt all that big but is fun to watch. What can you say about Conor Morrison, this kid has Vernons number. It seems anytime these two teams hook up Morrison always seems to find the back of the net, atleast once. Vernon needs to keep there eye on him as well as this line.

Vipers didnt hit anyone tonight, shyed away from the corners-hits for most of the night. Just a poor effort after playing good in last nights 3-1 win over Westside. Once again another loss after a win. This is already starting to look like the start of last year, win one, lose win etc etc. So far very inconsistant play from the Vipers early in the year. One night they look very strong and unbeatable, the next night, they play well at times and then dont look very good at all tonight. I know its early but I think its gut check time for alot of these kids. Kevin Kraus & Kyle Bigos both didnt have great games, both D-men had troubles all night.

Not sure if it was just how bad Vernon played but the Silverbacks looked very quick, deadly up front and played physical all game. This was not the same Salmon Arm team I saw in the Vipers home opener, a much improved hockey team since the opening night in the BCHL. The Silverbacks have a quick skating team, that moves the puck well. The line of Morrison, Desmet & Zengerle is very deadly. This game was over after the Backs 5th goal. This had to be the smallest and quietest crowd for a Vernon-Salmon Arm game at the Sunwace Center. Alot of empty blue seats.

Once again another loss after a win. This is already starting to look like the start of last year, win one, lose win etc etc. So far very inconsistant play from the Vipers early in the year. One night they look very strong and unbeatable, the next night, they play well at times and then dont look very good at all tonight. I know its early but I think its gut check time for alot of these kids. Kevin Kraus & Kyle Bigos both didnt have great games, both D-men had troubles all night.
Game Thoughts: (Salmon Arm)
Not sure if it was just how bad Vernon played but the Silverbacks looked very quick, deadly up front and played physical all game. This was not the same Salmon Arm team I saw in the Vipers home opener, a much improved hockey team since the opening night in the BCHL. The Silverbacks have a quick skating team, that moves the puck well. The line of Morrison, Desmet & Zengerle is very deadly. This game was over after the Backs 5th goal. This had to be the smallest and quietest crowd for a Vernon-Salmon Arm game at the Sunwace Center. Alot of empty blue seats.

Was at tonights game as Vernon defeated Westside 3-1 in front of 2, 114 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: Kory Roy & Bryce Kakoske made there Viper debuts tonight. Vipers got the early jump on Westside laying the body on any chance they had, getting the puck in deep, cyclying well down low. Just 2 and a half mins into the game Cory Kane stepped over the blueline and wired a wrist shot high over the glove of former Express Goaltender, Kevin Jebson. Vernon kept the pressure on and 3 mins later Chris Crowell did all the work down low, keeping the puck along the boards, getting out front getting a shot on net, as the Vipers were being rewarded a powerplay, Crowell fed the puck into the coner for Viper newcomer Ryan DePape who would fire a shot from the corner and sneak through Jebsons pads as Vernon jumpaed ahead 2-0. This would be DePapes 1st BCHL Goal. Jebson looked very soft allowing two Goals on just 5 shots. Westside couldnt generate any offence as the Vipers looked very good carrying the better of the play within the first half of the 1st. Vernon was skating well and moving the puck well down low, getting some chances. The Warriors didnt record there first shot on goal till 7 and a half mins remaining in the period. Shortly after Ryan DePape & Brad Plumton would drop the gloves in a solid tilt. Plumton & DePape were having words all period before dropping the mits. This fight seemed to give the Warriors some life as they turned the game around getting the puck in deep but having all kinds of trouble hitting the net. Westside had some very close scoring chances down low but couldnt hit the net, missing on some great scoring chances. Westsides best scoring chance came with a quick wrap around from behind the Vernon goal but Hammond was quick getting over to the side of the post to just keep the puck out with the toe of his skate. The Vipers defence got caught a few times having troubles clearing the puck from there zone, wich resulted in a panic attack. Vernon was lucky the Warriors couldnt hit the net as this could have been a different score after the first period. Vernon was up 2-0 after 20 mins of play. Vipers outshot the Warriors 11-5.
2nd Period: A scrambly 2nd period with alot of powerplays and very little good scoring chances for either teams. Both teams seemed to have troubles making some clear passes breaking out from there own end. Vipers once again had troubles defensivly. With Vernon on the powerplay the Vipers moved the puck well down low, Jebson made the first save but couldnt handle the big rebound as Mike Collins jumped on the loose puck, and roofing it high over Jebson as the Vipers were now up 3-0 and in full control. Westside played not a very physical game, but was always in the faces of the Vipers either during or after the play. Vernon didnt lay back, giving it right back as some pushing & shoving took places after many whistles. Connor Jones was taking a beating all game, getting pounded any chance the Warriors got. Jones was hit hard and often on almost every shift. Vernons best chance to put away the Warriors came with a two man advantage but struggled getting shots towards the net as well as keeping the play in the offensive zone. Give the Warriors credit they really pressured the Vipers not giving them much room to move or shoot, as Westside did a solid job on the penalty kill, killing off both minors. It was actually the Warriors who had the better scoring chances, but Andrew Hammond robbed newcomer Tyler Krause with a big pad save in the crease, after Krause & D-man Justin Schultz went in on a two on one shorthanded. It didnt take long before the Warriors were rewarded with a two man advantage of there own, Westside really moves the puck well, getting off the one timer in a hurry. Andrew Hammond was the Vipers best penalty killer making 3-4 big saves down low in the crease keeping the puck out. Hammond made two back to back pad saves. Matt Betker was all alone at the side of the goal, the puck come through the crease, Betker had all day at a wide open net but waited way too long and then fired wide missing on a great scoring chance. Vernons penalty killers were very strong killing off both minors. Late in the 2nd the Vipers had another defensive letdown as Garrett Watson went in two on one, Watson decided to keep the puck and shoot, beating Hammond but ringing the puck off the crossbar with just 33 seconds remaining. Vernon excaped the period up 3-0 after 40 mins of play. Westside outshot Vernon 10-9.
3rd Period: Some good open flow to start the 3rd made for some back & forth hockey. Very few scoring chances as once again Vernon had yet another chance to put away the Warriors getting back to back powerplays but once again really struggled, getting very little shots. Midway through the 3rd Vernon sat back a little playing more of a defensive shutdown, as the Warriors carried the edge in play at times. Not many shots or great scoring chances at both ends with Westside still trying to get under the skin of the Vipers. One thing Westside didnt quit on was finishing there checks and always getting a glove in the face or a little tap at the back of the legs or a shot here or there, as the Vipers seemed to allow this, not giving back any kind of retaliation. Westside had back to back powerplays late in the period coming close on a few times but still couldnt seem to muster anything in close. Andrew Hammonds shutout bid was finally broken with just under 5 mins remaining as Ron Kelly made a nice pass over to Garrett Watson who beat Hammond on the powerplay, cutting the lead to 3-1. The Warriors would press late really rushing the puck up ice but failing to generate an offensive attack as the Vipers defence managed to clear the puck from there zone. With about a min and a half to go Kevin Jebson headed to the Warriors bench for the extra man, the Vipers would get the puck in deep and Braden Pimm had a great scoring chance but fired high and way over the empty net, as the clock ticked down Westside would run out of time as Vernon gets its first ever home win over the Warriors in three years. This was just the 3rd win ever against Westside, since the Warriors moved to the Okanagan Valley. Vernons only other two wins against Westside came last year in Westside and then last weekend in Westside. Warriors outshot the Vipers 8-6.

Former Westside Warrior & Surrey Eagle Goaltender Andrew Hammond played very well, especially in the 2nd period on the penalty kill. Hammond has been the biggest surprise so far this season for myself, I didnt think Hammond could or would be playing this well, but he has proved me wrong. Hammond has looked very solid in each Viper game he has played so far this early hockey season.
Cory Kane (1 Goal) Played well up front for Vernon. This kid has one of the best wrist shots I have ever seen.
Chris Crowell (1 Assist) Played a very hard nosed game, worked hard in the corners and made some real smart plays in the offensive zone.
Top Players: (Westside) Garrett Watson (1 Goal) A bigger kid who plays with an edge. Always getting his elbows up, getting under the skin of players, but works hard and plays hard. This kid has played very well in the two games against the Vipers so far. Watson has two Goals against Vernon. This kid has a cannon for a shot. Great scoring chance late in the 2nd ringing a shot off the post.
Kyle Singleton played well for the Warriors, always buzzing around the Viper net.
Tyler Miller may have seen alot of mins in the penalty box but was steady on the backend, getting in the face of many players.

Nice to see Vernon get back in the face of the Warriors, play with that bit of an edge, but still need to be a little more physical-rough. Connor Jones was being pushed-knocked around way too much, you cant let your top players get knocked-pushed around. Vipers need a little more toughness, cant be so soft. This is a big weekend with two games vs top rivals.

Going down 2-0 early seemed to deflate the hockey club, you need better goaltending from a veteran goaltender like Kevin Jebson. Jebson looked soft in the 1st and midway through the 2nd but did managae to get his game back and play well to finish the game. Warriors lost alot of scoring over the off season and it has showed, they just dont have that relentless forecheck us Viper fans are use to seeing over the last two seasons. Dont get me wrong Westside did play well but just lacked in the scoring department. Westside played hard, always is one of the hardest working hockey teams, no quit in Mark Howells team, like I said before they make you pay when you go into the corners or along the boards. They always have someone yapping in your ear, getting under your skin, a little wack here or a jab here, and always finishing there checks. This could have been a different game if Vernon didnt jump out to the quick two goal lead. Both teams struggled on the PP.

It took a mammoth long distance phone bill and an elaborate set of trades to ship Bryce Kakoske just one hour up Highway 97. The end result is the 18-year-old winger will finally play in his hometown with the Vernon Vipers.Kakoske is the younger brother of Viper grad, Ryan, but you wouldn’t guess that by watching them abuse one another in B.C. Hockey League action last season, when Bryce played with the Westside Warriors.Viper fans can probably recall some heated battles along the boards, and in front of the net between the two at Wesbild Centre.Vipers’ GM/head coach Mark Ferner certainly can.“He’s always been good against us. There was certainly no love lost there (between Bryce and Ryan). They put the family thing aside, and that just shows the character of both these kids.”Ferner had been discussing Kakoske with Warriors’ head coach/director of player personnel Mark Howell over the past few months, but couldn’t reach an agreement.Ferner thought he’d lost out on Kakoske altogether when the Warriors dealt the Vernon product to the Surrey Eagles, in exchange for defenceman Michael Quinn.But Ferner got on the horn and ended up orchestrating a four-team deal to bring Kakoske to the Vipers’ den.To get him, Ferner first had to deal rookie forward Brett Switzer and future considerations to the Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for forward Danny McSween.The Snakes then dealt McSween to the Eagles in exchange for Kakoske and futures.Additionally, Surrey sent McSween to the Quesnel Millionaires to land forward Christopher Santiago.Kakoske played two seasons with the Warriors, and in 52 games last season, the speedy winger recorded 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points.“Bryce has got great puck skills and he sees the ice very well,” said Ferner. “We know what he can do, and we just hope he can do those things for us. It’s always a positive when you can bring back a local, talented kid.”Added Kakoske: “It (the trade) just kind of happened out of nowhere. I knew that something had to happen and that there were going to be changes, but I didn’t know it was going to be me.“I always got up against Vernon, it being my home town. I’m just going to work hard and hopefully put a few pucks in the net. Thoughts On Vipers-Eagles Trade:
This is a huge pickup by the Vipers. Bryce will add scoring & his hard work ethic to the Vipers roster. I had heard rumors over the summer that Bryce had asked Westside for a trade to Vernon. You knew the Warriors would never make a trade with the Vipers, so Bryce was traded last week to Surrey. Bryce never reported to the Eagles, so you had to guess he had asked for a trade to Vernon once again.... well the deals done. Im very thrilled to see Bryce back in Vernon playing for his hometown Vipers. Bryce once played with the Vipers 3 seasons ago as an "AP" I will admit I wasnt overlly thrilled with Bryce as a young 16 yr old but he did improve in his first season with Westside and then was the Warriors 6th leading scorer putting up 40 pts in just his 2nd BCHL season. Kakoske always played the Vipers tough. It was great watching both Kakoske brothers battle hard against one another. Great to see another local boy on the team, welcome back home Bryce! Bryce now gets to play his first game as a Viper vs his former team, this Friday as the Warriors come to town. This will add some fuel to an already heated rivarly between these two teams. I wish Brett Switzer all the best in Spruce Grove. Brett was recruited by the Vipers this season and was brought in listed as a goal scorer. Brett played well in Training camp but didnt really hit the score sheet in this early hockey season.

Once informed of who was who, the fan innocently asked, "Did you play tonight?"Crowell smiled, as he put on his dress shoes, and walked away, a frustrated captain of a team which had just giftwrapped a 3-1 victory to the Prince George Spruce Kings in B.C. Hockey League play before 1,954 stunned eyewitnesses. The young fan's question could have been put to most of the Vipers Saturday night at Wesbild Centre."It was a pretty frustrating game," said Crowell. "We have the makings to be a very good team this year. I think everybody believes that, but you just don't lace on your skates, and go out there and they give you the two points. You have to go out and earn it, and tonight the preparation wasn't there, and it cost us two points."The Spruce Kings, who lost 6-3 to the previously winless Merritt Centennials Sunday afternoon, mustered just 14 shots on the Vipers, who showed all the jump of a showdog stricken with the flu. For most of the night, it was hard to tell which team had taken a nine-hour bus ride, and the Viper intensity level came in at about a meagre two out of 10.Vernon took just eight penalty minutes, including a double minor for spearing to Braden Pimm with Prince George up 2-1. Rookie Michael Nardi made it 3-1 on the powerplay with seven seconds left in the second period, and it was pretty much gave over.The Vipers outshot the Spruce Kings 5-3 in the third period as fans kept waiting for some emotion, a big hit, a crash to the net, anything to ignite the offence."It's early which is good, but at the same time, those could be the two points that catch up to you at the end of the year when you're in the hunt for whatever place you're looking for," said Crowell. The Vipers traded New York product Brian Elser to the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior League for future considerations (cash) and a player to be named next year.“We felt he (Elser) was going to be a good player, but we had a chance to get a very good 20-year-old,” said Ferner. “It was a tough thing to do because you never want to trade your recruits, but I have a responsibility to put the best team on the ice I can.”Ferner scouted Elser, 18, at the U.S. Midget championships in Buffalo last spring. He helped Shattuck St. Mary’s win two national titles.

Was at tonights game as Prince George defeated Vernon 3-1 in front of 1,954 fans at the Wesbild Center.
1st Period: The Vipers got off to a quick start, getting the puck in deep and really having the better of the play the first 5 mins or so. Vernon moved the puck well, making some quick passes setting up some real nice scoring chances. Kevin Genoe looked solid all period making some big saves keeping the Vipers off the board. John Digness had the biggest hit of the night, laying out Wes McLeod with a thundering hit in the PG zone. Digness was also robbed by Genoe on one of many Vernon scoring chances. The Vipers looked very good down low all period. The Spruce Kings finally got the puck deep into the Vernon zone but managed very little pressure. Captain Chris Crowell made a nice move at the circle and then wired a shot off the crossbar as the play really opened up, a very quick pace 1st with loads of action coming in the PG zone. A very entertaining quick period with very little stopages in play. The Spruce Kings had a bit of a late charge but couldnt find the back of the net. Both teams were playing physical. It was scoreless after 20 mins of play. Vernon outshot Prince George 9-5.
2nd Period: Just 2 mins into the period Kyle Bigos went for the body, missing the puck, Tyson Hall made a nice pass up to, Sean Ambrosie who was being chased down by Steven Weinstein, Ambrosie put a nice move on Mark Segal, then sliding the puck behind him to give the Spruce Kings the 1-0 lead. Segal was making his BCHL debut in net for the Vipers. Just 4 mins later with PG on the powerplay, Sam Muchalla beat Segal gloveside putting Prince George up 2-0. A much more scrambly period with not much flow at either ends of the rink. Vipers battled back trying to get on the scoreboard, throwing lots of pucks towards the goal, but once again Genoe come up with some big saves. Chris Crwowell would finally get Vernon on the board, after a nice pass from Rob Short. Crowell skated down the left wing and then wired a shot from the circle top shelf over Genoes glove, cutting the lead to 2-1. This was Crowells first goal of the season. Within the first few seconds Vernon would jump on an early powerplay and it didnt take long before John Digness had a great scoring chance in close but was stopped by Devon Murtagh. Westside would kill off the minor and then shortly after go on a PP of there own. The Vipers managed to kill off the minor with some solid goaltending of Andrew Hammond. Some good flow to start the game with both teams getting some chances, alot of pushing & shoving after each whistle as the Warriors were by far the more fiesty team tonight. Sahir Gill, Trent Dorais & Nick Amies all played there first games of the season tonight in Westside, Gill & Amies both playing in there first BCHL games. On Gills first shift of the game, showed some good hustle, getting the puck over the line and then driving towards the net, getting a quick shot off, Murtagh made the save, while going down on the play, Gill kept banging away at the loose puck before sliding inbehind Murtagh getting his first career BCHL goal as the Vipers were up 1-0 just 5 mins into the 1st. Both teams played well but it was the Vipers who had the better scoring chances in the period. Vernon would go up 2-0 at the midway mark as Nick Amies made a real sharpe play to keep the puck in at the blueline, chipping it in down low as Mike Collins made a nice pass over to Connor Jones who beat Murtagh. Murtagh likes to come out and play the puck alot, really likes handling the puck outside of the crease, but had some troubles letting out big rebounds and looking shaky at times throughout tonights game. On the other end of the rink Andrew Hammond looked very solid-confident between the Vernon nets. Hammond made a real nice pad save keeping the Warriors off the board, when Jordan Gagne was stopped on Westsides best scoring chance of the period. Westside was the more grittier team getting in the face of many Vernon players, after each whistle the Warriors were getting there gloves & elbows up. Vernon on the other hand shyed away from the gritty play, looking a little soft on some shifts. A very entertaining period with the Vipers getting the better scoring chances. Vernon was up 2-0 after 20 mins of play. Shots were even 14 each.

Just like last weekend in Salmon Arm the Vipers were having all kinds of trouble in the 2nd clearing the puck. Give Westside full credit, they played with that very aggresive forecheck Viper fans are all use too. The Warriors carried most of the play in the first half as Vernon was hemmed in there own zone. Once again Andrew Hammond had to be sharpe coming up with a few nice saves. Hammond made three big saves one after another after a bad clearing attempt from behind the Vipers net. Westside played physical and in your face hockey really taking it too the Vipers who almost sat back a little getting caught coughing up the puck on many times. Vernon would get lucky getting a break as Cory Kane broke in down the left wing and blasting a shot high over Murtagh putting Vernon up 3-0. This was a bad break for Westside after having the better of the play in the Vipers zone but not being able to beat Hammond. This goal seemed to give the Vipers some life as they managed to get the play out of there own zone and get some of the action in the Warriors end for a few mins. With under 5 mins remaining Vernon would get into penalty trouble taking some undicaplined minors and it cost them as Warrior Captain Ron Kelly battled hard in the slot and with Hammond down and out, Kelly slide the puck along the ice, wich found the back of the net getting Westside on the board, cutting the lead to 3-1. With the Warriors on yet another powerplay just 30 some seconds after getting there first goal of the night, Kelly yet again would set a nice pass over Garrett Watson who stepped over the line and then wired a shot pass Hammond as Westside was right back in the game, 3-2 Vernon with still 3 mins to go. The Vipers looked very sloppy for most of the 2nd. The Vipers would yet again go back to the penalty kill but managed to excape the 2nd and head to the dressing room up 3-2. A much better-stronger performance by the Vipers in the 3rd as they stepped up there play, playing with a bit more physical presence as well as tighting up defensivly. Westside couldnt seem to manage that great forecheck they had going for them in the 2nd as the Vipers seemed to not allow much traffic through the neutral zone. Vernon had a great scoring chance with a two on one but Devon Murtagh come up with a huge pad save keeping the puck out. Murtagh was called apon to make another huge pad save robbing John Digness on a two on one. The Warriors did manage to get a few good scoring chances but former Warriors goaltender Andrew Hammond looked very solid all night. Both teams had a few powerplay chances but couldnt find the back of the net. Late in the game with about a minute & a half remaining Westside tried to get Murtagh on the bench for the extra man, but couldnt get the puck in deep. With just 37 seconds left Mutagh finally would get to the bench as the Warriors would get the extra man out, but couldnt get any kind of an offensive attack going as the Vipers would defeat the Warriors 4-2. Vernon outshot Westside 11-7.

Vipers played 40 mins tonight taking the 2nd period off. Looked good in the 1st & 3rd periods. Was good to see the boys regroup after a very sloppy 2nd and come out strong to start the 3rd scoring early, regaining there two goal lead. Vipers looked quick up front but had troubles on the backend, clearing the puck out from there own end. Vipers turned over the puck way too many times tonight in there own end, really need to tighten up in there own end. Had many good scoring chances. Vernon was pushed around most of the night, the Vipers need to play more physical and finish all checks. This team looks good up front but was way too soft tonight, got pushed around on many ocasions. Vernon looked intiminated when it came to the physical play-rough stuff. Overall a pretty good game to watch.

Thoughts On Elser Being Traded:
The Vipers have now lost two great kids along with two solid hockey players due to the import rule. Last weekend the Vipers lost backup Goaltender, Ryan Faragher to the import rule, Faragher then joined the Westside Warriors. Now today the Vipers lost Brian Elser due to the import rule, due to aquiring former WHLer Ryan DePape. I was very impressed with the play of Elser at the Vipers training camp. Elser worked very hard, always shwoing alot of hustle in trying to make this yrs team. Elser looked very good on a line with Braden Pimm & Chris Crowell. Always played with an edge along with having some good size. Its too bad this kid had to be traded.... A kid coming from New York all the way to Vernon is now on his way to Drayton Valley. All the best with the Thunder Brian! You will be missed. Best of luck up in Alberta.
Thoughts On Aquiring DePape:
Im looking forward to watching DePape play tonight in Westside. At 6'2 and 216 lbs I really like his size and Jr experience. With being a former captain, he will add alot of leadership on & off the ice. Mark Ferner basically picked up Greg Beller last year for nothing as he added alot to the Vipers lineup, will DePape do the same this year? I think with his size and toughness-hard work heres a kid Vernon was missing last year, these kind of kids are warriors come Playoff time. So far I think this will be a good addition to the Vipers roster. It will be interesting now to see who the odd man out is? The Vipers have 25 kids, so two have to go. It will be interesting to see if Ferner makes any other moves soon.

Each WHL club can carry three overagers.“He competes hard and he’s another big body who you want to go to war with,” said Ferner. “Plus, he’s a pretty skilled guy, too.”DePape was captain of the Prince Albert Raiders as an 18-year-old, compiling 25 goals and 56 points in 62 games. He pocketed 7-12-19 with the Raiders last year before being traded to Regina, where he added 3-3-6 in the final 27 games.“He has had decent numbers (12 points in 28 games) in the playoffs all four years,” said Ferner.Defenceman Victor Bartley, centre Scott Doucet and left-winger Michael MacAngus won Regina’s three overage spots.
