Okanagan Cup Semifinal: Vernon 2 West Kelowna 0

JoJo Tanaka-Campbell's goal at 10:10 of the 1st period held up as the game winner, while Cameron MacDonald added some late insurance with an empty net goal at 19:08 giving the Vipers a 2-0 lead. I watched the Vipers/Warriors game on my computer this evening.

This game had a playoff like feel to it and after playing very well in the opening frame, who would have guessed JoJo Tanaka-Campbell's goal at 10:10 of the 1st period would stand up to be the game winner? I sure didn't. I thought Vernon was the better team with a slight edge after 20 minutes but the hometown Warriors played very well and carried most of the play in the middle frame, were by far the better team in the 2nd period. West Kelowna had a ton of zone time and opportunities couldn't tie the game. In the 3rd down a goal again I thought it looked like the Tribe carried the better of the play, had more offensive zone time but Koen MacInnes was solid between the pipes for the Vipers in the 2nd and 3rd periods, keeping the Snakes in the hockey game and giving the Vipers a chance to win. The Warriors couldn't convert on the power play, were 0-5 with the man advantage. The Vipers blocked a lot of shots and were good on the PK. Tempers heated up with four seconds remaining as both teams emotions and frustrations boiled over. A classless Warriors team showed very poor sportsmanship on the final faceoff of the game, as the Vipers got the last laugh with not only the win but advancing to the Okanagan Cup Final.

Kjell Kjemhus, JoJo Tanaka-Campbell, Trey Taylor, Cameron MacDonald, Ryan Shostak, Nicholas Kent, Zack Tonelli and Koen MacInnes looked good and played well for Vernon.

Skyler Cameron, Charles-Alexis Legault, John Evans, Zach Brooks, Deegan Milford, Jack Finley and Johnny Derrick looked good and played well for West Kelowna.

Will we see any suspensions from the altercations inside the final few seconds of the hockey game?

West Kelowna went 4-0 vs Vernon during the Okanagan Cup Round Robin, but it goes to show you that anybody can almost beat anybody in a one game showdown. The four well maybe three out of the four previous games vs the Warriors were very close and could have gone either way. The Vipers played hard, got some breaks, had some puck luck and hung on for the win tonight.

For a Vipers team where most Viper fans weren't giving much of a chance, the Vipers have made it to the Okanagan Cup Final. I know a lot of you will argue and say it's only the pre-season, but I think this team has come along ways and looks like a much different team from the Viper team that started the Okanagan Cup 0-4.

Congrats on the big win tonight boys and enjoy the celebration on the bus ride home!

Go Vipers Go!

Congrats Vipers fans! Your boys played well tonight and outplayed and outclassed the WKW's. Was not impressed with the final shenanigans of the Warriors at the end.

I knew this would happen tonight. I mentioned it a few posts ago that Vernon will pull a repeat from last years playoffs and upset the opposing team.

Maybe your coach that you all seem to hate so much knows what he's doing after all? As long as he wins when it counts that's all that really matters right?

Anyways.....hopefully there will be a regular season to watch, although I highly doubt it will be able to be viewed in person. I probably won't post much for a while, I get the impression from some of the negative nancy's on here disguised as 'anonymous' that I have worn out my welcome here.....so I'll catch you all later.

Mr.Diehard, thank you for offering me a place to chat hockey and thank you for your excellent blog. Next time I'm in Vernon at the rink I"ll come and introduce myself personally and buy you a beer!

See you all in the regular season Viper fans! (Fingers crossed)
Cheers,
Uncle Ben

Uncle Ben, you will always in life have negative people in your life and sometimes your light sense of humour just doesn't sit well with some people. I have a neighbour like that and personally he is just too serious about life, a no nonsense kind of guy. So if I have to converse with the guy I just stick to the facts and have to realize that my humour as funny as it is to me ,well you get what I mean. So stick to your opinions and give your comments on how you view things but maybe slack off on trying to be funny because negative people will never get it. HAVE A NICE DAY, UNCLE BEN.

@Bingo

Thanks Bingo! I've enjoyed reading your comments on here the past while and enjoy your optimism and insight into the game.
My feelings aren't really hurt at all....I know I came off a little strong that's just who I am....but I don't really have much other reason to be here until the Warriors are playing again.
But we'll see what happens. Hope we can exchange some banter when (if) the regular season starts!
Cheers,
Uncle Ben
