Vipers Trainer Invited To Help With U17’s

Vernon, BC:  A huge honor.  A chance to work and learn from the best.  Learning the Canadian way.  These statements are made by Kamloops Blazers trainer Toledo Robinson who has worked many years with Hockey Canada.  These words come from the heart when describing the importance of growing and developing a craft such as being a trainer in hockey at any level.

Robinson passes these messages along to his son Ty who is the  trainer for the Vernon Vipers as he prepares for his second season with the club.  Ty is away in Calgary honing his skills and learning from the best at the U17 camp.

Ty, 21, is the only trainer to be invited from the CJHL.

“This is a fantastic opportunity,” says Robinson.  “To be the youngest trainer there, to get a chance to work with some of the best and to represent the Vipers is a huge honour.”

Despite being young in years, Ty is no stranger to the hockey community, following in the footsteps of his father Toledo who has served Hockey Canada in many different ways including the World Juniors, the U18s, the Spengler Cup and even the Ivan Hlinka Tournament.

Ty has spent time shadowing his dad in the WHL, while also working with the BCMML’s Thompson Blazers and KIJHL’s Kamloops Storm.

A lot goes into the equipment management side of the job, which is a major focus for Ty in Calgary.  Skate sharpening, laundry, cleanup and organization are all hidden, yet integral parts.

“We’re extremely proud of Ty for getting this opportunity,” says Head Coach and GM of the Vipers Jason McKee.  “The BCHL is a developmental league and we couldn’t be happier he’s getting to learn from the best at Hockey Canada.”

The U17s is a huge camp for Hockey Canada with the best players under 17 years old.  In total their are 112 players and 6 teams at the event.
