Americans Sign Ex Viper Defenceman Strachan:

The American Hockey League Rochester Americans have signed former Vernon Vipers defenceman Tyson Strachan.

Strachan played last season with the Minnesota Wild & American Hockey League Iowa Wild. After four years at Ohio State University Strachan has played the past eleven seasons with twelve teams in three leagues. (Albany River Rats, Las Vegas Wranglers, Peoria Rivermen, St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, San Antonio Rampage, Washington Capitals, Hershey Bears, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild, Iowa Wild & Rochester Americans).

Strachan played one season in Vernon (2002-03) collecting (6-goals-22-assists-28-points) in 56 regular season games with the Vipers.

Strachan was drafted by Carolina in the 5th Round (137th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

AMERKS SIGN DEFENSEMAN TYSON STRACHAN TO AHL CONTRACT

The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed defenseman Tyson Strachan to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Strachan, 31, appeared in 67 AHL games with the Iowa Wild last season, recording 13 points (1+12) and 68 penalty minutes. He also played in two NHL contests with the Minnesota Wild. In 2014-15, Strachan spent the entire season with the Buffalo Sabres, collecting five assists and 44 penalty minutes in 46 games.

In 186 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild, Strachan has registered 20 points (1+19) and 199 penalty minutes. In parts of nine AHL seasons with the Albany Devils, Peoria Rivermen, San Antonio Rampage, Hershey Bears and Iowa Wild, he has compiled 100 points (17+83) and 394 penalty minutes in 343 regular-season games.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Melfort, Saskatchewan, was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
