Silverbacks Name Former Vipers Defenceman Hambrook Captain:

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks have named former Vernon Vipers defenceman Bennett Hambrook this years captain. Hambrook started the 2010-11 season with the Vernon Vipers before being traded to the Prince George Spruce Kings on September, 20th 2010 for future considerations, after playing in just three games with the Vipers. Hambrook was then traded to the Woodstock Slammers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League on July, 17th 2011 for future considerations before returning to the BCHL last year after Salmon Arm aquired Hambrook from the Woodstock Slammers on August, 22nd 2011 for future considerations.

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks announced Tuesday that 20-year-old defenceman Bennett Hambrook will be the 12th captain in franchise history.

The second-year SilverBack from Kimberley, B.C, displays leadership both on and off the ice will be instrumental in blending over a dozen new faces with the veterans in the ‘Backs locker room.

"Since the day I met him at Spring Camp I knew he was the guy to lead this team into a new era," said 'Backs head coahc and general manager Troy Mick. "His work ethic and commitment to this team and town is second to none."

Last season, fans and teammates came to know Hambrook as a fearless leader who never shied away from the roughest elements of the game whether it was blocking shots, absorbing checks or defending his teammates.

While Hambrook has had his BCHL passport stamped a few times with stops in Trail, Vernon and Prince George. He found himself a permanent home last fall in the SilverBacks lineup, passing on his knowledge and character to a young SilverBacks defence corps. He was eventually named the recipient of the 'Backs 2011-12 Unsung Hero Award.

Returning teammates Jeff and Brendan Kennedy and Sean Flanagan; all three of whom wore the 'A' at points last season will join Hambrook in forming the leadership group of the 2012-13 SilverBacks.

"These three guys are going to be a big part of what we want to do here this year," said Mick. "Their passion and compete for the game will make their teammates accountable and fans proud."

The SilverBacks would like to congratulate all four players on being named captains and are looking forward to a great season under their leadership.
