Former Viper Goaltender Hammond Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week:


Former Vernon Vipers goaltender, Andrew Hammond has been named Papa John's Athlete of the week. Hammond who played two seasons in Vernon (2007-09) helped the Vipers win the 2009 Royal Bank Cup is in his second year at Bowling Green.

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Andrew Hammond and women's basketball player Jen Uhl.

Male Athlete of the Week

Andrew Hammond, a sophomore from Surrey, British Columbia, helped the Falcons pick up two points in the conference standings with a tie and shootout win Friday against Western Michigan. After holding the Broncos to one goal and posting 31 saves in 65 minutes, he stopped all Bronco shootout attempts en route to the victory. Saturday, he added 30 more saves in a 3-1 loss and had a 1.92 goals against average on the weekend and a .938 save percentage.
