Shyiak names captains for 2010-11

Release: July 22, 2010

ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage hockey coach Dave Shyiak announced Thursday his four captains for the upcoming campaign.

The sixth-year head coach tabbed seniors Tommy Grant and Craig Parkinson, along with junior Brad Gorham and sophomore Chris Crowell to assume the Seawolves’ leadership positions in 2010-11.

“I think we have a strong core of leaders heading into this season,” said Shyiak. “We felt as a staff and as a team that these four players will help us lead a very young team. Craig, Tommy, Brad and Chris are all young men with strong leadership traits, and we are very confident that they can help us achieve our goals this year.

“At this point in time all four of these individuals will take on the responsibility of being assistant captains,” Shyiak added. “However, at some point during the season we may see fit to name someone to carry the captaincy.”

The Seawolves begin the season Oct. 2 with an exhibition game against Windsor in Soldotna, then open the regular season against North Dakota and Air Force in the annual Kendall Hockey Classic, Oct. 8-9 at Sullivan Arena.
