Glen Metropolit Off To Play in Swiss Elite League

After lacing up the skates for seven different teams over eleven seasons, most recently the Montreal Canadiens, Glen Metropolit has said goodbye the NHL after signing a two-year deal today with EV Zug of the SEL.

No matter where he played, Metro (as he was known best) was a fan-favorite for his efforts on and off the ice.

Metro had some goal-scoring prowess, but was counted on more as a solid faceoff man and penalty killer.

In the locker room, teammates had nothing but great things to say about the Toronto, Ontario native.

Any reporter or fan who has ever met Metro will tell you he's a genuine and down-to-earth guy.

Although his numbers were never astounding (159 points in 407 games), coaches and fans alike could always expect consistency and effort from Metro.

In his last season with the Habs, Metro posted 16 goals (10 of which came on the powerplay) and 13 assists in 69 games.

Renaud Lavoie of RDS asked the veteran center about his time in Montreal.

"It was a great way to finish my NHL career. That means a lot to me."
