The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce their 2008-2009 Captains for the season. All veterans to the Vipers, Cody Ikkala, Kyle Bigos and Steve Tresierra will all be Assistant Captains to two time Captain, Chris Crowell. Last season all four players contriubuted to the sucess of the Vipers and look to lead the pack for a bigger and better year. Ikkala, who was out for a lot of the season last year, played 38 games last season with the snakes, posting 1 goal, 4 assists and 85 penalty minutes. Cody is not only excited to be wearing the "A",he also gets to show his little bother, Cole Ikkala, the ropes of the BCHL and the Vernon Vipers. Kyle Bigos came to the Vipers last season from California where he started off a bit rusty but by the end of the year he not only posted the most penalty minutes of the team with 152, had 1 goal and 15 assists in 58 games, but most importantly Bigos was name Most Improved Player. Bigos took his summer very seriously and he has already improved his strength and skills. Steve Tresierra, a rookie last season from Golden, has the heart and soul of a true hockey player. Tressiera, with 7 assists and 27 penatly minutes last year is looking to make a huge impression on the ice this year. Steve focused this summer on his strength and willl look to secure a NCAA scholarship this season. Named Captain for a second season, Chris Crowell is once again very honored and proud to lead the Vipers for 2008-2009. Crowell has been with the Vipers since 2005 and knows what it takes to lead and motivate a team. Crowell had 9 goals and 17 assists in 55 games last season and posted 135 penalty minutes. Coach Mark Ferner says "All four of these guys are very worthy of this honor. They all portray what we would like to see our players act like both on and off the ice. They will serve the team and represent the community very well." The Vipers start their season tonight at 7:00PM and host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
