Day 3 Report From Vernon Vipers Training Camp:

I have had season tickets since 1990 and been following/watching junior hockey in Vernon most of my life.

I stopped by Kal Tire Place North this morning to check out Day 3 from Vipers training camp.

This morning saw Team Red defeat Team Yellow 6-2 Nathaniel Harvey who was injured yesterday was back on the ice today.

The second and final scrimmage of the morning saw Team Black defeat Team Yellow 4-3 in a shootout.

I thought both scrimmages had lots of intensity with some players getting in the mix in some heated moments. I didn't notice as much skill today but the size and speed was still there. Lot's of compete and players battling for roster spots.

News & Notes:

Talking with some people today, reports were more players were coming into town later today, while some players from last year's team, are away attending WHL training camps

I also heard cuts were going to be made at some point today

Day 2 Report From Vernon Vipers Training Camp:

I have had season tickets since 1990 and been watching/following junior hockey in Vernon most of my life.

I stopped by Kal Tire Place North this morning to check out Day 2 from the Vernon Vipers training camp. Each scrimmage is two non stop run twenty five minute periods with an ice cleaning between periods. All penalties are an automatic penalty shot.

This morning saw Team Red defeated Team Black 5-4 One thing I noticed was the skill level from both teams this morning. Both teams scored a couple of real nice goals. This scrimmage had some intensity. Vipers returning forward Nathaniel Harvey took what looked like a knee on knee hit, was on the ice in severe pain before being helped off the ice. Two fights broke out immediately after the hit.

The second and final scrimmage of the morning saw Team Yellow defeat Team Red 5-3 in another intense and physical scrimmage. Another fight took place as there was a lot more physical play in the second scrimmage.

News & Notes:

A few things that caught my attention was the size of the players, the skill level and the intensity. The Vipers have a lot of size and kids that can skate but also make things happen. Matt Cooke and the coaching staff was very intense during a short practice, were heavily involved in going over drills and teaching the kids different plays.
