A huge loss for the Vipers! For a team that hasn't been very good and struggled offensively this season, MacDonald was second in points with twenty one.

For a team that has mismanaged their roster/lineup this season, MacDonald was one of the teams better signings this season. I really liked MacDonald. One of the better players and one of the more consistent players this season. MacDonald always seem to come ready to play, played hard and was one of the Vipers more skilled/offensive minded forwards.

You can't blame MacDonald for leaving. What 20 year old wants to finish his junior hockey career on a team near the bottom of the standings and a team that may not make the playoffs.

MacDonald is now the twenty second player to either be traded, released or leave the team. I'm speechless as I have never seen this many moves/players coming and going in a season.

He left on or about December 31 according to some sources and of course no press release from the Vipers.

What is it with you guys and press releases?? The team isn’t obligated to shout out every move right away. Our fan base is ridiculously entitled.

Josh your so right. It's a business no one needs to know. Back in the day you had to wait for it to come out in the newspaper. I am sure they are not paying someone to update fans everyday. The fan base likes to spread rumors. It's a business and they are only kids. The kids need to do what is best for themselves. Furthermore this league has changed for better or worse. If you don't like it don't come. You don't like that there is no press release don't follow the team. This is not the NHL not paid players. No one owes anybody an explanation. I been going to the vipers games for 3 decades. You have to take the good with the bad.

As a 20 year old, MacDonald was in his last year of Jr. hockey and was playing in the BCHL to earn a D1 scholarship. A move to the USHL where 99% of players are committed should only increase his chance of earning a scholarship to a D1 school. The recent NCAA-CHL rule change has created almost all of the player movement in the BCHL. Now that CHL players are eligible to play NCAA D1 hockey, there could be less D1 roster spots available for BCHL players. The BCHL is now competing directly with players from the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, and from the USHL. I would bet that most if not all D1 college coaches are now focused almost exclusively on the CHL and USHL to fill roster spots. The BCHL will need to decide at some point if they will become a feeder system for the CHL with younger rosters or if they will try to compete directly with the CHL. Lots of unknowns right now, but a major reason why there has been so much player movement. The BCHL is a very good league and has a long history of moving players on to the next level. I hope the league is able to find a solution to attract and retain the very best players and compete against the CHL and USHL for players. As a lifleong Vernon fan, I want to see the very best Jr hockey players in Vernon. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if a few BCHL teams try to make the move to the WHL for the start of the 25-26 season. Time will tell.

Firstly, I think it is a good move for MacDonald to move to the USHL. He is a 20 year old seeking a scholarship and has a much better chance of securing one with his new team/league. The BCHL is no longer the preferred feeder league for education. We will miss him but wish him the very best.

Regarding the comment "It's a business, no one needs to know". In today's business world a good social media presence is extremely important. No one gets their info from newspapers anymore, rather they receive it through their phones. Yes, fans don't need to know all the inside decisions & concerns but it is prudent to provide good messaging to your customers or in this case fan bases. Clearly, it is good business and smart marketing. A lot of the negativity and rumors could be nipped if they got out front of changes and communicated successfully. The Vipers are sadly lacking and have work to do.

Regarding the massive turnover of players mentioned above it makes me consider. What business, and yes the Vipers are a private business, would be successful with this amount of employee (player) turnover? Think for a minute about the business you work for. Would it be successful with people coming and going constantly and a management team that everyone hates working for? I think not.

Yes Anonymous. Remember when Duncan Wray owned the team. We all liked the guy and respected him. We looked up to him. I see today's ownership at the games and I look down on them.
