Former Vernon Lakers forward Scott Salmond & Team Canada opened the 2022 Spengler Cup on Boxing Day with a 3-2 loss to Sparta Prague. Canada's next game is December 27th 2022 vs HC Davos.

Salmond is Canada’s Senior Vice-President of Hockey Operations. Salmond has been involved with Team Canada from 2001-2022.
Salmond played parts of two years in Vernon (1988-1990) before being traded to the Kelowna Spartans during the 1989-90 season. In 52 games with the Vernon Lakers, Salmond collected (7-goals-26-assists-33-points). Salmond played in the BCJHL with Vernon, Kelowna, Bellingham & Merritt from 1988-1992.
The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995
