The Wenatchee Wild erupted for four goals in a six-minute span midway through the second period to beat the Vernon Vipers 4-1 in B.C. Hockey League action Friday night in Washington state.

The Vipers played in Coquitlam Saturday, and wrap up their three-game weekend road swing this afternoon in Langley.

“Those six minutes were the difference,” said Vipers head coach Mark Ferner.

With newly acquired defenceman Cameron Trott in the penalty box for hooking, Wenatchee opened the scoring on the powerplay.

After the goal, Vipers’ d-man Connor Clouston was whistled for a four-minute spearing infraction, then, 34 seconds later, Shane Kelly was called for cross-checking.

The Wild scored twice with the two-man advantage, and added a shorthanded marker at 15:35.

Steven Jandric scored his team-leading 12th in the third period for the Vipers to spoil Garrett Nieto’s shutout bid.

League goal-scoring leader Charlie Combs had two for the Wild, giving him 29 on the year.

Ty Taylor made 33 saves for the Vipers through the first two periods. Newly acquired Darion Hanson made his Vernon debut in the third, stopping all 14 shots he faced. The Wild outshot Vernon 47-25.

The Vipers made more roster moves Friday, dealing forward Keith Anderson to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for future considerations, and signing former Western Hockey League forward Luke Gingras from the Saskatoon Blades.

Gingras made his Viper debut Friday.
