Vipers Roster Filling Up Quickly:

Last week the Vipers announced the future considerations part of the deal that sent forward Adam Tambellini to Surrey at the BCHL Trade Deadline back in January.  The Vipers aquired 17 yr old forward Demico Hannoun and 17 yr old defenceman Jordan Klimek.  Both players will be coming to Vernon for just a single season after heading to University for the 2014-15 season.  Both are veteran players, both having played the last two years in the league with the Eagles.  As part of the trade the Vipers sent 18 yr old forward and Vernon product Michael Roberts to the Eagles.

With only seeing Surrey play here once a season I dont really know alot about both players in the trade.

Demico Hannoun played in 42 games this season with the Eagles collecting (14-19-33) and in 91 career BCHL games has (26-33-59).  At the end of the day I like this trade, for one Adam Tambellini was playing his final year of Junior hockey before going to UND next season.  So making this trade makes sence.  Hannoun sounds like a kid who can put up some numbers and now entering his third yr in the league has some big time playoff and RBC Cup experience that he will bring to the Vipers dressing room.

Jordan Klimek played in 52 games this season with the Eagles picking up (6-17-23) scoring four game winning goals.  Pretty good numbers for a kid who only played in just eight games with Surrey the year before.  In both deals that the Vipers made at the trade deadline we saw Vernon picking up two offensive forwards and two d-men (Nanaimo & Surrey) wich now puts the Vipers roster at 23 with nine twenty year olds.  Meaning three will have to go before Training Camp.  Klimek will add some help to the Vipers backend wich I think struggled most of this season.  Vernon's defence was making one too many turnovers as well as defensive mistakes all through out the 2012-13 season.  Klimek can hopefully come in and add some stability to the Vipers blueline.

Its always tough to see the loss of a Vernon kid as Michael Roberts is now a member of the Surrey Eagles.  At the sametime its a good situation for a local player to leave home at a young age, mature and play away from home, friends, family etc where you can focus more on hockey-education and wont feel the pressure of playing at home.

I thought Roberts played pretty well for his rookie season in Vernon.  Roberts along side Logan Mick and Mitch McAllister made for a terffic and sometimes pretty exciting, hardworking 4th line.  In 53 games with the Vipers Roberts collected (4-6-10)  Were the Vipers expecting more from the local?  Some games he looked very good, but just didnt get the bounces or puck luck and then of course there were the few games where you wondered if he was even playing that night.  Roberts wasnt afriad to play hard, physical and get in the scrums or even get his nose dirty.  All the best in Surrey Michael!

It looks like all of the Vipers future consideration deals from this season have been taken care of, you have to wonder who will be the next to be traded.  As Vernon has nine twenty yr olds, wich means three have to go.  (Jason Bird, Josh Bryan, Ryan Renz, Liam Board, Brendan Persley, Braeden Russell, Colton Sparrow, Geoff Crisfield and Austin Smith).  Wich three will be traded?

You also have to wonder if the Vipers have anymore recruits coming for next season?  Wich means the Vipers roster spot already at 23 players will grow even more.  It will be very interesting to see what moves will happen over the summer and into Training camp-the pre season.

Here is a look at the Vipers current and possible roster to date.
