Panthers Recall Former Vipers Defenceman Tyson Strachan:

The Florida Panthers have recalled former Vernon Vipers defenceman, Tyson Strachan from the AHL San Antonio Rampage Monday. Strachan getting just his second callup of the season made his Florida Panthers debut on Jan. 24 2012 vs Philadelphia. Strachan played just one season in Vernon (2002-03) collecting (6-22-28) in 56 regular season games with the Vipers, before playing four years at Ohio State University. Strachan was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Strachan signed as a free agent with the Panthers back in July after playing the last four seasons with the AHL Peoria Rivermen & the NHL St. Louis Blues.

SUNRISE, Fla. ­ Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has recalled D Tyson Strachan.

Strachan, 27, earns his second call-up of the season to Florida. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman made his Panthers debut on Jan. 24 in Florida’s 3-2 shootout loss against Philadelphia. Prior to playing with Florida, Strachan appeared in 67 National Hockey League contests, all with St. Louis (2008-11), registering six assists and 82 PIM. He has played in 32 games for San Antonio this season recording 12 points (3-9-12) and 31 PIM.

The Melfort, Sask. native was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (137th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Florida (22-15-11) hosts the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Florida and heard on 560 WQAM.
