David Robinson #1 In Your Heart, #10 In Your Program:

Congrats goes out to former Vernon Vipers captain, David Robinson on being named the North Okanagan Male Athelete of the year as well on his commitment to the University of Calgary for this coming hockey season.

Robinson who played Mr.clutch this past season scoring some huge goals or big time game winners for the Vipers, will be truly missed this coming season. Dave played with his heart on his sleve and knew what it was to be a Vernon Viper and provide his leadership to the younger kids coming into Vernon. One of the true classy players in Viper history his leadership on and off the ice will be missed. Robinson was great with the fans and a true friend and team mate in the dressing room. Over the past two years Robinson was one of the hardest working kids on the team, played each shift like it was his last and never quit. A true competator that always battled and and was a warrior come playoffs. Robinson in his final year with the Vipers carried a very young, inexperienced Vipers team to the RBC Cup finals but fell short falling 2-0 to the RBC Cup Champion Pembroke LumberKings as Robinson and the Vipers fell short of becoming the first Junior hockey team in history to win three straight National Titles. Thanks for some great memories Dave! I wish you all the best with the Dinos & whatever comes along in your future!

With David Robinson now gone, the question is, who will be the Vipers captain for this season? Patrick McGillis who was a captain before coming to Vernon would be my guess. McGillis now entering his third season with the Vipers is the only remaining player left from the 2009-2010 RBC Cup winning team and brings that leadership role. McGillis I think is a great leader and knows what it takes to be a Viper and what it takes to win in this league. McGillis is another player that plays hard, battles and gives it his all. I guess will have to wait and see what happens over the summer. Who ever the new captain will be, they will have some pretty big skates to fill after David Robinson.
