Lets take a look at both teams,
Vernon Vipers: (3-1)
The Vipers clinched top spot in the BCHL and the Interior Division with a record of 51-6-0-3 and was ranked #2 in all of Canada. Vernon scored a league high 298 goals and broke the Penticton Vees BCHL record for least amount of goals, giving up just 119. Vernon was 25-4-0-1 at home & 26-2-0-2 on the road during the regular season. The Vipers are 9-0-0-1 in their last 10 games. The Vipers had three players in the leagues top 20 in regular season scoring. Connor Jones (36-45-81), Mike Collins (30-46-76) & Braden Pimm (25-43-68). Blake Voth lead the league as the BCHL’s top goaltender. Voth has a record of 21-2 with 3 shutouts and broke the BCHL record with the lowest GAA with 1.79 Graeme Gordon was 3rd in the leagues top 10 goaltenders with a record of 30-7 with 2 shutouts and a GAA of 2.06
For just the second time in franchise history, the Vipers have clinched more than 50 wins in a regular season. The Vipers hit the 51-win mark this season one shy of the team and league record. The Vipers won 52 games in the 1998-99 campaign, which they followed up with a national Junior A title. The 51-6-0-3 Vipers also set a new BCHL record for the fewest goals allowed (119). The previous record of 137 was set by the Penticton Vees in 2005-06. Goaltender Blake Voth etched his name into the BCHL annals, setting a record 1.79 goals against average. The rookie tender bettered Nanaimo Clipper net detective Simon Nolet’s 1.98 GAA in 2004-05. Vernon at one time during the regular season went on a 21 game winning streak, one shy of the teams record before falling in overtime to Westside. This years version of the Vernon Vipers has to be one of if not the best Vernon Junior Hockey team Viper fans have ever seen.
After last year’s Drive for Five ended with the franchise’s record-breaking
fifth National Junior A Championship, the Vernon Vipers are back, looking for an
unprecedented sixth national crown. With 13 returning players, the Vipers ran
roughshod over the B.C. Hockey League during the regular season, winning 51
of 60 games and earning at least a point in 54. Their 105 points left them five
clear of Penticton atop the Interior Conference, and 25 ahead of third-place
Westside. Connor Jones, named Top Forward at the 2009 RBC Cup, finished
eighth in the BCHL scoring race with 81 points to lead the Vipers, while Mike
Collins also earned a top-10 finish with 76. Graeme Gordon, who served as
back-up to Andrew Hammond during last year’s run to the national title, finished
with the league’s third-best goals against average, posting a 2.06 GAA, while
Blake Voth, who saw action in 24 regular season games, topped the league at
1.79 while going 21-2-0. After their regular season conference title earned them
a first-round bye, the Vipers faced off against Quesnel in the quarter-finals, with
the Millionaires stealing Game 2 in Vernon and winning Game 4 at home to
send the series back to the Okanagan tied 2-2. But the Vipers’ defence clamped
down from there, not allowing the Millionaires another goal in the series, winning
4-0 and 5-0 to set up a showdown with Penticton in a battle of the BCHL’s
best regular season teams. After winning both games in Vernon and splitting
the games at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton the Vipers had
the Vees on the ropes, and a triple-overtime win by Penticton in Game 5 only
delayed the inevitable as Vernon wrapped up the series in six. The BCHL final was
a rematch of 2009, as Vernon and the Powell River Kings faced off in a classic
series that saw the Vipers erase a 1-0 deficit in Game 7 and score the eventual
series-winner with five minutes to go in the third period, clinching the city’s 10th
league championship since 1971. The Doyle Cup matched up two of Canada’s
top teams, as the Vipers and Spruce Grove Saints combined for a 103-17
record, and the series didn’t disappoint. The Vipers left Alberta with a 2-1 series
lead after a double-overtime win in Game 3 and were on the verge of victory
after a Game 4 triumph, but back-to-back wins by Spruce Grove forced a Game
7. Vernon took control with three goals in a 2:08 span late in the first period en
route to a 7-3 win and an opportunity to defend their title in Dauphin.
GOAL: 1989 born veteran Graeme Gordon and Saskatchewan rookie 1991 born Blake Voth were both stingy all year. Gordon went 30-and-7, 2.06, .912. Voth was 21-and-2, 1.79, .929. Gordon was the main netminder in the playoffs and he appears to have full confidence of the coaching staff after posting numbers that were not on par with regular season and playoffs in the Doyle Cup (4-3, 2.95, .882).
DEFENSE: 1989 born Dan Nycholat led the blueline with 45-points in 58-games during the regular season and also led the defense in points in the playoffs. Kevin Kraus is the other 1989 born veteran of the group, although there is only one rookie playing regularly (Garrett Noonan).
FORWARDS: Twin brothers Connor and Kellen Jones should garner lots of attention and there’s good reason why. Connor led the team in goals and points in the playoffs with Kellen right behind in the scoring parade. Connor also had a team leading 36-goals and 81-points in the regular season. 1989 born Braden Pimm had 25-goals and 43-assists in 59-games during the regular season and after an uneventful playoff, he came back to be a major offensive cog in the wheel in the Doyle Cup against Spruce Grove. The Vipers will look for more from Mike Collins, who dented the twine 30 times in the regular season, but scored just twice in 19-playoff games. 1992 born Sahir Gill continues to improve and figures to be on the scoresheet often.

The Vipers are looking at repeating as National Champions since the 1990-1991 Vernon Lakers last repeated as Champs. Vernon is heading back to the Royal Bank Cup for the second year in a row. No team has won back to back National Championships since the 1990-1991 Vernon Lakers. Last year the Humboldt Broncos went back to the RBC for a chance to win back to back titles but lost in the final to Vernon 2-0.
Vernon is coming off three straight wins at the Royal Bank Cup after falling to Dauphin in the first game, the Vipers have wins over La Ronge (4-2), Oakville (5-3) & Brockville (4-2) wich clinced 2nd place with a 3-1 record.

After finishing the round-robin at 3-1 the Vipers have a date in todays semi-final with the (2-2) Brockville Braves who finished in 3rd place at the RBC Cup. Both teams played one another in Wednesday's 4-2 Viper victory. The winner of todays game moves on to the RBC Cup Final tomorrow afternoon.
Let’s take a look at the key’s to today’s contest.
-The Vipers have yet to play a full 60 minutes, Vernon needs to come ready to play this afternoon with a full 60 minue effort.
-Controversy between the pipes as in who will get the start in goal for the Vipers? Will it be Graeme Gordon or Blake Voth? Either goalteder will need to come up with the big save when needed.
-Will Connor Jones be back in todays lineup after missing all the round-robin games due to an injury.
-Brockville is the only team to score first against Vernon at the RBC Cup.
-Vernon needs to play better with the lead, the Vipers have blown or almost given up the lead late in three out of the four games in the round-robin.
-13 players are back from last years RBC Cup Championship team, the leadership and experience has to give the edge to the Vipers. This is a game where these guys have to step up and take over control of todays game.
-Vernon needs to use their speed and solid forecheck-cycle down low against the Braves, Vernon is very strong on the forecheck.
-Specialty teams and goaltending will be key
-Vernon needs to get lots of pucks and traffic towards Justin Gilbert who was named the RBC Cup Top Goaltender.
-The Vipers need to watch the likes of, Shayne Thompson, Nathan Slack, Alex Boak, Mike Skakum, & Shayne Stockton.

Brockville Braves: (2-2)
The Braves finished the regular season in 1st place with a record of 52-8-1-1 The Braves scored a league high 308 goals and gave up a league low 140 goals.
They may not have won their league championship, but the Brockville
Braves will have a shot at a national title after winning the Fred Page Cup on
home ice to book a trip to Dauphin. The Central Junior Hockey League’s regular season
champions, the Braves won a neck-and-neck battle with the Pembroke
Lumber Kings for top spot, finishing just a single point ahead of the Lumber
Kings and 19 points ahead of any other CJHL team, thanks in large part to a
CJHL-record 26-game winning streak from October 30 to January 15. Brockville’s
league-leading offence was a two-Shayned attack, as Shayne Stockton (98
points) and Shayne Thompson (87 points) both earned top-10 spots in the
CJHL scoring race, while Scott Arnold and Mark Williamson also cracked the
top 25. Between the pipes Clarke Saunders was a wall, winning 31 games and
finishing second with a 2.31 goals-against average, just 0.02 behind leader
Scott Zacharias of Pembroke. The Braves cruised through the first two rounds of
the playoffs, sweeping past Kemptville and Ottawa in four games each, playing
in just two one-goal games, setting up the expected final against Pembroke,
who were looking to become the first team in the history of the CJHL to win
four consecutive league championships. After splitting the first two games – with
each winning a one-goal contest on the other team’s home ice – the Lumber
Kings took control of the series, outscoring the Braves 14-5 over the last three
games to deny Brockville its first Bogart-Nielsen Cup since 1998. The Braves
had their chance for revenge, as they hosted the East Region championship at
Brockville Memorial Arena, but they would have to do so without the services
of Saunders, who injured his knee at a pre-tournament practice, forcing the
Braves to turn to Justin Gilbert, who saw action in just two games during the
playoff run. After a convincing 6-0 win over the Woodstock Slammers to open
the tournament, Brockville once again faced off against Pembroke, with a likely
bye to the championship game on the line. Scott Dawson was the hero, scoring
with less than 10 minutes to go in the third period, clinching a 2-1 victory for the
Braves which, coupled with their 5-2 win over the Cobras de Terrebonne in the
round-robin finale, sent them directly to the final. Their opponents? Who else, the
Pembroke Lumber Kings. The game would not be as close as their round-robin
meeting as Brockville opened up a 4-0 advantage before the seven-minute mark
of the second period en route to a 5-1 win and its first berth at the National
Junior A Championship since the 1998 Royal Bank Cup in Nanaimo, B.C.
The Braves are coached by former NHL defenceman, Todd Gill.
