Exploring Dauphin Manitoba:
With no games today, and only one tonight (Dauphin vs Brockville) I thought I would get out and explore some of Dauphin & the Manitoba area. Dauphin is very small compared to Vernon, BC and the Okanagan Valley. Some reports have Dauphin around 8-9,000 people in a town where farming is huge. A very old yet historic city that has tons of old yet very unique buildings in and around downtown. The people are very friendly here, and much different then back home in the Okanagan. No fancy car's or truck's, big 20" rims on the young kids cars etc. No big fancy homes like you would see along Kal Lake or up in the Coldstream area. Even the people in what they wear look much different then the folks back home. You dont see the men or women all dressed up in some high priced clothing outfit, more bluejeans and a plad shirt with an old beatup hat on. Yesterday in between games I wanted to try and get out and do a little browsing-shoppig at the mall or some small shops in and around town. Well you sure realise your in a small town when nothing opens on a Sunday till noon and everything closes at 4 or 5pm. Gas is only 90 cents a litre in town here, much lower then the 1.09 were paying back home in Vernon. When you head out for a drive on the outskirts of Dauphin, nothing much more then farming fields and mud bogs along the highway-small town roads. You also dont see much of the big name fancy restaraunts like you see in some of the bigger cities or even back home in the Okanagan. Alot of little mom and pop type family restaraunts. I must say the home made cooked meals are very yummy! I'am back at the hotel now as I will be catching the Brockville-Dauphin game tonight, but hopefully have a chance to get out and do some more site seeing. I will have more posted later. Thanks
