Dauphin Kings Improve To 2-0:

I attended tonight's Dauphin Kings & Brockville Braves first place showdown as the Kings improved to 2-0 and are atop the RBC Cup standings, while the Braves drop to 1-1 and sit in 2nd place. Dauphin would open the scoring but the Braves would tie the game, it was Brockville who was the better of the two teams in the opening period. The Kings missed on a few good scoring chances as did the Braves. It was a different story in the 2nd period as Dauphin seemed to step up their game and outplay Brockville but couldnt capitalize on their chances. The Kings would manage to get two goals in the middle frame but could have put this game away with three chances on the powerplay but unable to score. Dauphin missed atleast two empty nets and several great quality scoring chances but were up on the scoreboard 3-1 heading into the 3rd. An early goal by Shayne Stockton made for a heck of a 3rd period. Both teams battled hard in the final period with chances at both ends of the rink. Brockville with some poor decisions-passing gave up the puck several occasions in the 3rd but the Kings were once again unable to score on their chances. With Justin Gilbert on the bench the Braves come close a few times with some pressure late in the game. Dauphin would hang on for the win in a very entertaining-exciting hockey game.

I thought both teams were fairly even. Brockville was the better team in the 1st, Dauphin was the far better team in the 2nd and both teams battled hard in a fairly even played 3rd. Both teams missed on some very good scoring chances, each team had a shorthanded breakaway and were unable to score. Both teams goaltenders played very well, giving their teams a chance to win.
