Icemen Announce Qualifying Offer To Ex Viper Martin:

The ECHL Jacksonville Icemen have announced the club’s qualifying offers

for the 2023-24 season. Former Vernon Vipers forward Craig Martin is one of eight players listed on the Icemen qualifying offers list.

Martin started the 2022-23 season with HC Grotto before signing with the Icemen December 13th 2022. In 32 games with the Icemen, Martin has (13-goals-21-assists-34-points).

HC Grotto is an ice hockey team playing in the Slovak Extraliga. They play in the city of Prešov, Slovakia. In 20 games, Martin collected (4-goals-5-assists-9-points). HC Grotto signed Martin June 6th 2022. 

Martin played the past three seasons with the ECHL Jacksonville Icemen before going to Slovakia for the 2022-23 season.

Martin played four seasons at Quinnipiac University from 2015-2019 before signing his first professional contract with the American Hockey League Springfield Thunderbirds April 2nd 2019. Martin didn't play a game with the Thunderbirds, was released, later signing with the ECHL Adirondak Thunder July 8th 2019. The Thunder traded Martin to Jacksonville November 26th 2019.

Martin played parts of two seasons in Vernon from 2011-2013. The Vipers traded Martin and future considerations to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs October 1st 2013 for Jared Wilson. In 46 games with the Vipers, Martin collected (10-goals-13-assists-23-points). Martin played parts of four seasons in the BCHL with Vernon, Alberni Valley & Trail from 2011-2015.

Former Vipers Associate Coach Mallette Is Golden – Again

Former Vernon Vipers Associate Coach Kris Mallette & Hockey Canada’s Under-18 Team recently won the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup after a 3-2 overtime win over Czech Republic.

Mallette was an Assistant Coach with Hockey Canada’s Under-18 Team at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. 

Mallette has spent the past four seasons as Head Coach of the Western Hockey League Kelowna Rockets. Mallette was an Assistant Coach with Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team last season.

Mallette is a Rockets Alumni (1996-1999) has been with the Rockets for the past ten seasons. Mallette spent six seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Rockets from 2014-2020 before being named Head Coach March 2nd 2020.

Mallette played ten seasons in the ECHL, UHL, CHL & IHL with Louisiana, Baton Rouge, Ashville, Elmira, Colorado, Youngstown, Laredo & Flint from 2000-2009 before retiring from professional hockey in 2009. Mallette spent three seasons in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League as an Assistant Coach & Head Coach of the North Okanagan Knights from 2010-2013. 

Mallette spent one season in Vernon as an Associate Coach with the 2013-14 Vernon Vipers. Mallette left the Vipers after the 2013-14 season, returning to Kelowna in 2014. Mallette was named Rockets Assistant Coach July 4th 2014.

Growlers Announce Qualifying Offer To Former Viper Forward Skirving:

The ECHL Newfoundland Growlers have announced the club’s qualifying

offers
 for the 2023-24 season.  Former Vernon Vipers forward Todd Skirving is one of three players listed on the Growlers qualifying offers list.

Skirving has played the past four seasons with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers. In 70 games last season, Skirving collected (31-goals-27-assists-58-points).

The Growlers loaned Skirving to the American Hockey League Toronto Marlies April 4th 2023. Skirving went pointless in 1 game with the Marlies before being released and returned to the ECHL..

Skirving played four years at Rochester Institute of Technology from 2013-2017 before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Orlando Solar Bears August 3rd 2017. Skirving spent the 2017-18 season playing with Orlando, Utah and Atlanta before signing a professional contract with the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers October 16th 2018.

Skirving committed to the Vernon Vipers for the 2010-11 season. Skirving played with the 2010-11 Vernon Vipers. The Vipers traded Skirving and future considerations to the Prince George Spruce Kings January 10th 2011 for Ryan Renz. In 34 games with the Vipers, Skirving collected (4-goals-5-assists-9-points).

Former Vernon Viking Holland May Be In Last Year After Jeff Jackson Hiring:

Holland’s final season as general manager of the Edmonton Oilers after 
Jeff Jackson was introduced as the new CEO of hockey operations for the Edmonton Oilers.

Holland has spent the past four seasons as President & General Manager of the Edmonton Oilers.

Holland started as an NHL Scout with the Detroit Red Wings in 1985. Holland was a Scout with the Red Wings from 1985-1987 before being named to Director of Amateur Scouting in 1987 until being named Assistant General Manager in 1994 then being named General Manager & Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations in 1997. Holland left the Red Wings in 2019 was named General Manager & President of Hockey Operations of the Edmonton Oilers May 7th 2019.

Holland was drafted 188th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 12 of the 1975 NHL Draft. Holland never played a game with the Maple Leafs, played four games with the Hartford Whalers and Detroit Red Wings before retiring from professional hockey in 1985.

Holland played one season in Vernon with the 1973-74 Vernon Vikings.

The Vernon Vikings were around from 1973-1978 before changing their name to the Vernon Canadians in 1978.

Worcester Railers Announce Qualifying Offer To Former Viper Jandric:

The ECHL Worcester Railers have announced the club’s qualifying offers for

the 2023-24 season. Former Vernon Vipers forward Steven Jandric is one of seven players listed on the Railers qualifying offers list.

Jandric split the 2022-23 season with the ECHL Worcester Railers & American Hockey League Springfield Thunderbirds.


Jandric has played the past two seasons with the Railers before signing with the Thunderbirds November 18th 2022. In 20 games with the Railers last season, Jandric collected (8-goals-11-assists-19-points) In 31 games with the Thunderbirds last season, Jandric collected (2-goals-6-assists-8-points).

Jandric started the 2021-22 season at Merrimack College before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Worcester Railers March 20th 2022. Jandric was released March 27th 2022 after playing in only 5 games. The Railers re-signed Jandric March 31st 2022. In 20 games with the Railers last season, Jandric collected (6-goals-7-assists-13-points). The American Hockey League Providence Bruins signed Jandric to a professional tryout contract April 29th 2022 before being released.

Jandric spent the past five seasons playing with three Universities from 2017-2022. Jandric committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for the 2017-18 season. Jandric played three seasons in Alaska before transferring to Denver University for the 2020-21 season. After one season at Denver University, Jandric transferred to Merrimack College for the 2021-22 season. 

Jandric played two seasons in Vernon from 2015-2017. In 115 games with the Vipers, Jandric collected (34-goals-39-assists-73-points).

Vipers Alumni Zalewski Leaves Klagenfurt:

Former Vernon Vipers forward Mike Zalewski and EC-KAC will go their

separate ways. The club has decided not to make an offer to continue their cooperation.

Klagenfurt Athletic Sports Club or EC KAC (German: Klagenfurter Athletiksport Club) is a professional ice hockey team in the ICE Hockey League. The team plays their home games in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Austria at Stadthalle Klagenfurt.

Zalewski played the past two seasons with Moser Medical Graz99ers & EC-KAC.

Zalewski played two seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2012-2014 before leaving University to sign his first professional contract with the Vancouver Canucks March 17th 2014. Zalewksi made his NHL/Canucks debut April 12th 2014 in a 5-2 loss to Edmonton. Zalewski played six games with the Canucks, before playing three seasons in the American Hockey League with the Utica Comets from 2014-2017 before going to play professional hockey in Germany in 2017. Zalewski has spent the past six seasons playing in Germany and Austria.

Zalewski played two seasons in Vernon from 2010-2012. In 106 games with the Vipers, Zalewski collected (50-goals-54-assists-104-points).

FamilIarity Allowing Ex Viper Jandric To Thrive At Sabres Development Camp:

Former Vernon Vipers defenceman Chris Jandric recently

attended the Buffalo Sabres development camp.

Jandric played the past two seasons at the University of North Dakota before signing his first professional contract in late March 2023 with the American Hockey League Rochester Americans .

Jandric was named to the 2022-23 National Collegiate Hockey Conference's All-Conference team.

Jandric committed to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for the 2018-19 season. Jandric spent three years at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks from 2018-2021 before transferring to the University of North Dakota for the 2021-22 season. 

Jandric attended the Arizona Coyotes Development Camp in July 2022.

Jandric played two seasons in Vernon from 2016-2018. In 108 games with the Vipers, Jandric collected (6-goals-45-assists-51-points).

Allen Americans Add Ex Viper Finlay To Teams Season-Ending Roster:

The ECHL Allen Americans have announced the club’s Season-

Ending Roster for the 2023-24 season. Former Vernon Vipers forward Liam Finlay is one of twenty players listed on the Americans Season-Ending Roster.

Finlay spent the 2022-23 season with ECHL Allen Americans. The Americans signed Finlay September 27th 2022. In 54 games, Finlay collected (33-goals-37-assists-70-points). On April 12th 2023 Finlay was named to the ECHL 2022-23 All-Rookie team.

Finlay played the previous two seasons in Europe playing with four different teams (KOVEE, HK Nitra, Tingsryds AIF & EHC Freiburg) from 2020-2022.

Finlay played four years at Denver University from 2016-2020 before signing his first professional contract with Koovee September 7th 2020. Koovee is a Finnish ice hockey team that plays in the Mestis, second-tier league where the team is based in Tampere, Finland. 

Finlay attended the Vancouver Canucks development camp in July 2019.

Finlay played parts of two seasons in Vernon (2014-2016) after coming over in a trade with the Penticton Vees. The Vipers traded the Junior A playing rights of Dakota Conroy & future considerations October 28th 2014 to the Penticton Vees for Liam Finlay. In 96 games with the Vipers, Finlay collected (39-goals-69-assists-109-points).
