Ullrich and Kipp Join Stingrays for 2012-13 Season

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Damon Kipp and forward Mike Ullrich. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreements were not disclosed.
Ullrich, 25, scored 29 goals and 35 assists for 64 points in 66 games with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League last season, tying him for the team lead in points with current Stingrays forward Dylan Clarke. The Banff, Alberta, native joined the Oilers for his rookie campaign after completing a three-year collegiate career with the South Alberta Institute of Technology. With the Trojans, Ullrich netted 139 points (40 goals, 99 assists) in 81 games and led the team to two Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championships and became the team’s all-time assists leader. In 2009-10, the 6-foot-2, 198-pound forward was named the ACAC Male Athlete of the Year out of more than 1,500 athletes.
“The more [Stingrays Head Coach] Spencer Carbery and I talked, the more it became apparent that South Carolina would be a good fit and I would really enjoy it,” said Ullrich. “When we first talked, he said there was an opportunity to move and the way he talked and the class he showed, I really felt that if I was going to leave, it was going to be for that situation.” Click here to listen to the full interview with Ullrich.
Before college, Ullrich skated in 11 games with the ECHL’s Pensacola Ice Pilots in 2007-08 adding one goal and five assists for six points.
Kipp, 24, skated in four regular-season games (one assist) and seven postseason contests (one assist) with the Stingrays last season after finishing his senior year at the University of New Hampshire. In 140 games with the Wildcats, the Salmon Arm, British Columbia, native added 45 points (11 goals, 34 assists) and captained the team last season. During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Kipp was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.
“When I came down there at the end of last season, I really enjoyed my time there,” said Kipp. “Everyone I talked to said it was a grade A organization and a great place to play.” Click here to listen to the full interview with Kipp.
Carbery sat down with Broadcaster Joseph Zakrzewski earlier this week and talked about the team’s newest additions. Click here to watch the full interview.
