Penguins bolster depth at forward with signings
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have announced the signings of forwards Cody Chupp, Denver Manderson, and Scott Zurevinski to American Hockey League contracts.
Chupp spent 15 games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the 2011-12 campaign, notching a goal and four assists. The Big Rapids, MI-native also put up 34 points (17g-17a) in 43 games with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
The fourth-year pro made his AHL debut in 2009-10 with the Texas Stars, appearing in 67 contests over two years. Chupp lettered all four seasons at Ferris State University from 2006-10.
A rookie last season, Manderson skated with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and put up 18 goals and 22 assists in 52 contests. He ranked third on the team in goals (18) and tied for fourth in points (40).
Originally from Fergus, Ontario, Manderson played three years with the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League from 2007-10. He scored a career-high 113 points (40g-73a) in 2009-10 that was second to teammate Beau Bennett’s 120-point performance and third overall in the league.
Zurevinski spent four seasons with Quinnipiac University from 2007-11, tallying 92 points (46g-46a) in 155 career collegiate contests. The two-year captain from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan attended the Pittsburgh Penguins development camp in the summer of 2011 before returning to Quinnipiac for his senior season.
Following his season year in 2011-12, Zurevinski signed an amateur tryout contract with St. John’s on Mar. 17, 2012 and appeared in eight games with the IceCaps.
