Nailers Add Former Viper Lord To Protected List:
This was posted on the Nailers website back In June.
The easy part is finished for the Wheeling Nailers as the team on Wednesday announced its protective players list for the upcoming 2010-2011 ECHL season.
''We protected all our ECHL players,'' Coach Greg Puhalski said. ''In the upcoming weeks we will decide who to qualify on July 1.''
Deciding how many of the 13 players on their list they want to tender is the difficult part.
According to a league press release, teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish, provided the protected meet the guidelines as definded by the Collective Barganing Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association which state that teams shall retain the rights to each player that: signed a Standard Player Contract in 2009-2010 and has not been traded or released; signed an SPC in 2009-2010 and was recalled to the NHL, the AHL or an International Ice Hockey Federation team, and has not been traded or released; received a 2009-2010 qualifying offer for the current season and did not sign an SPC, and has not been traded or released; has been suspended by the team or league, and has not been traded or released; signed an SPC on or after the first day of the 2009-2010 regular season, then subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or releasead; has executed the ECHL retirement Form.
Basically what this means, is the Nailers own the negotiating rights for the following players: goaltender Bobby Jarosz, defensemen Kyle Bushee, Cleve Kinley, All-Star Mitch Ganzak, amd Kevin Schmidt, and forwards Jordan Fox, Chris Davis, Billy Ryan, Colin Power, Sean Collins, Ryan Smyth, Aaron Clarke, and captain Andrew Lord.
Lord played two seasons in Vernon from 2002-04. Lord, a 25-year-old native of West Vancouver, British Columbia, played the past two seasons with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers scoring 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 70 games. Lord, a second-year pro, posted his best season in 2008-09, capturing career highs in all offensive categories in goals (18), assists (31) and points (49), in addition to appearing in seven playoff games for the Nailers. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward played four seasons (2004-08) of collegiate hockey at R.P.I, collecting 45 points (19+26) in 134 career games for the Engineers. Late last season Lord was signed to a 25-game professional tryout with the AHL Rochester Americans, where he finished the season.
