25-Sep-09 The Cowichan Valley Capitals Hockey Club transfers the playing rights of Kiefer Smiley (90(G) to the Trail Smoke Eaters Hockey Club in exchange for future considerations.
The Vipers scored four first period goals adding one more in the 2nd to go up 5-0 heading into the 3rd period before defeating Cowichan Valley 8-4. Mike Collins (2), Braden Pimm, Chris Crowell (2), Kyle Bigos, & Rob Short scored for the Vipers. Kevin Walrod, Taylor Holst, Nick Anderson, & Zack Currie scored for the Caps. Chris Rawlins allowed 3 goals on 10 shots, Taylor Pears took the loss making 36 saves. Graeme Gordon made 22 saves for the win. Kevin Kraus, Kyle Bigos, Steve Tresierra, Mike Collins, Rob Short & Adam Thompson all had two point games. Braden Pimm & Chris Crowell picked up three points each.

Tonight is the first meeting of the season between the Cowichan Valley Capitals and the Vernon Vipers. The Capitals are currently playing game #3 of a five game road trip wich started Wednesday night with a 6-1 loss in Penticton. Cowichan Valley is playing three games in three days starting off with a 3-2 win in Trail last night, face off against the Vipers tonight & then head up the highway to Westside tomorrow afternoon before finishing the trip Friday in Victoria. The Vipers are also playing three games in three days, their second straight three game weekend. Vernon pulled off a huge 2-1 Overtime win in Penticton last night, before heading home for two games tonight vs. Cowichan Valley and tomorrow afternoon vs. Alberni Valley.

The Vipers currently sit in 2nd place in the Interior Division with a record of 9-1 three points back of the Division leading Penticton Vees (10-2-0-1) The Vipers are coming off a big 2-1 Overtime victory over the Penticton Vees last night, giving the Vees their first home loss of the season. Mike Collins is 12th in league scoring with (8-7-15) Graeme Gordon is 2nd in the leagues top goaltenders with a record of 8-1 and a GAA of 1.66 The Vipers are facing a team that we really don’t know much about other then the Capitals record. Vernon is going to have to try and jump on a bus riden Caps team that made the long trip up from Trail last night. Vernon who plays well on home ice is 5-1 at the Wesbild Centre this season. Im wondering if Blake Voth wont get the start tonight?

The Capitals currently sit tied for 7th in the Coastal Division with the Nanaimo Clippers with a record of 4-6-0-1 one point back of the 6th place Victoria Grizzlies. The Capitals are playing their 3rd game of this five game road trip going 1-1 so far with a 6-1 loss in Penticton Wednesday and then defeating the Smoke Eaters last night 3-2. Cowichan Valley is 3-2-0-1 on the road wich is actually better then the teams home record of 1-4. The Caps don’t have a single player in the leagues top 20 in scoring. The Caps have scored just 30 goals this season but have already surrendered 44 goals against. The Capitals have two players who may know a little on the Vernon Vipers after playing in the Interior Division last year. Curtis Gedig (Merritt) & Rajan Sidhu (Penticton) Cowichan Valley is going to have to watch all four of Vernons lines and try and shutdown the Vipers top two lines of Connor Jones, Kellen Jones & Cory Kane & then Braden Pimm, Mike Collins & Jonathan Milhouse.
