Rockets ice Blazers

The Kelowna Rockets got an injection of Viper venom as they grounded the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 in Western Hockey League exhibition play Saturday night at Prospera Place.
Short bodies, Rockets GM Bruce Hamilton placed a call to Vipers’ GM/head coach Mark Ferner asking if he could spare some players for the game. Viper defenceman Kevin Kraus (former Tri-City American) and forward Jonathan Milhouse (former Portland Winter Hawk) suited up.
“They had 12 guys at NHL prospects camps, plus a few banged up bodies,” said Vipers’ assistant coach Jason Williamson. “Bruce Hamilton and Ferner have pretty good relations, so he phoned him up asking for a favour.”
Even with Kraus and Milhouse, the Rockets were still only able to ice 15 players.
Kraus collected an assist on Brett Bulmer’s winner early in the third period.
“Kraus was probably one of the best defencemen out there,” smiled Williamson, who went down with some of the Vipers to watch their teammates play. “(Milhouse) was skating well, too – he looked pretty smooth out there.”
Meanwhile, the Vipers have yet to make the final cut to trim their roster to 23 players. It is expected they will cut one of their eight remaining defencemen before Friday’s home opener against the Salmon Arm SilverBacks.
