Newhook takes 2nd BCHL POW nod
December 11, 2017
Victoria Grizzlies forward Alex Newhook has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 10, the league announced Monday.
Newhook racked up 10 points in three games, helping the Grizzlies to two wins in three games. The native of St. John’s, N.L. started out with a pair of goals in a loss at Cowichan Valley but followed that up with four helpers, lifting Victoria to a 9-4 win over Nanaimo. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound playmaker finished up with a goal and three assists and a 3rd Star nod in a 7-4 triumph over Powell River.
The double-digit points outburst is the first such week for a BCHL scorer this season and moves Newhook up to 12th in BCHL scoring. The Boston College commit leads the Grizzlies with 35 points on the season despite being one of the youngest players in the league.
