Porter Named To All-Rookie Team-Ex Viper Brushett Named First Team All-Star:
Vernon Vipers goaltender Aidan Porter has been named to the BCHL all-rookie team, while former Vernon Vipers forward Ryan Brushett has been named first team all-star.
Brushett is in his first season in Powell River after the Alberta Junior Hockey League Grande Prairie Storm traded Brushett to the Kings September 7th 2018.
Brushett played last year with the Surrey Eagles before being traded to Vernon over the summer for future considerations. The Eagles announced the trade on June 14th 2018. In 58 games last season with Surrey Brushett picked up (21-goals-28-assists-49-points).
The Vipers traded Brushett to the Alberta Junior Hockey League Bonnyville Pontiacs June 1st 2018. Brushett was the future considerations in the Derek Brown trade. The Pontiacs traded Derek Brown to Vernon January 9th 2018 for Sol Seibel & future considerations. Seibel never reported to Bonnyville was later traded to Salmon Arm January 10th 2018 for future considerations.
The Pontiacs traded Brushett to Grande Prairie July 16 2018. Brushett was previously committed to Providence College for this coming season before joining the Kings.
The Vipers signed Brushett September 22nd 2016 after playing in the United States Hockey League. After one season in Vernon the Vipers traded Brushett to Surrey September 6th 2017 for future considerations. In 50 games with the Vipers Brushett collected (10-goals-16-assists-26-points).

2019 All-Stars

Tallying up the results from a survey of the league’s broadcasters has revealed the first team, second team and all-rookie team of BCHL All-Stars.
In all, 11 teams are represented across the three teams and two players found themselves included in the rookie team as well as the one of the All-Star squads.
All of the players mentioned will be in action starting Thursday night and through the weekend as the Chevrolet BCHL Playoffs get underway.

No. 4 Vernon Vipers vs. No. 5 Salmon Arm Silverbacks
Regular season head-to-head: (6 games)
Salmon Arm won five of the six meetings, including two in overtime and one in a shootout.
Of note:
The Vipers allowed the third-fewest goals in the BCHL and will rely heavily on goaltender Aidan Porter who finished in the top-five in goals-against average (2.59) and top-10 in save percentage (.908). He also tied for the second-most shutouts with four. As they did in the regular season, Vernon will try to score by committee as they had four different players with 40 points or more. Matt Kowalski led the team in scoring with 43 points and had 30 in 35 games after being acquired from West Kelowna.
Matthew Verboon leads the way offensively for the Silverbacks. After a strong start to the year, he earned a spot with Team Switzerland at the 2019 World Junior Championships, but he’s been even better since returning, totaling 29 points in Salmon Arm’s final 19 games. The Silverbacks are hoping to turn things around after losing four straight to finish the season. Despite the losing streak, they still managed to hold of West Kelowna, finishing one point ahead of them for fifth place in the division.

The Vernon Vipers will face the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in round one of the B.C. Hockey League playoffs.
The matchup was confirmed Saturday after Vernon lost 4-3 in overtime to the Merritt Centennials, the Gorillas fell 4-0 in Penticton, and the West Kelowna Warriors – who could have overtaken Salmon Arm in the standings with a win – dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Smoke Eaters in Trail.
The Vees’ victory clinched the Interior Division pennant, and gives the Vees a first-round date with the Island Division crossovers, the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Merritt will take on the Smoke Eaters and the third-place Wenatchee Wild draw the Warriors.
All series are best-of-seven affairs, and start Friday.
It’s the second straight year Vernon and Salmon Arm will face-off in the opening round. The Snakes swept the Gorillas last season.
Games 1 and 2 and in the Vipers-Silverbacks series will be at Kal Tire Place Friday and Saturday.
Salmon Arm won five of the six regular-season meetings with Vernon, though the Vipers took the last game, Jan. 11, 4-1, at Kal Tire Place.
Matthieu Gosselin got the overtime winner for Merritt on a powerplay with 15 seconds left in the first five-minute overtime period. Jesse Lansdell had been whistled for a slash 43 seconds earlier.
Elan Bar lev wise forced OT for the Vipers with a goal, his seventh of the year, with only one second left in regulation time, capping a Vipers’ two-goal deficit comeback in the period.
Teddy Wooding, with his 21st of the year, opened the scoring for Vernon at 7:24 of the second. Payton Matsui tied the game four minutes later for the Centennials.
Merritt took a 3-1 lead on goals from Bradley Cocca and Nicholas Wicks four minutes apart midway through the frame. Logan Cash, with his seventh, got Vernon to within one at 18:04, setting the stage for Bar lev wise’s heroics.
Bradley Cooper made 45 saves for the Vipers.
All playoff series are now set.
In the Mainland Division, the regular-season pennant-winning and defending Royal Bank Cup champion Chilliwack Chiefs will play the Langley Rivermen, and the Prince George Spruce Kings take on the Coquitlam Express.
In the Island Division, the division-winning Victoria Grizzlies draw the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and the Powell River Kings face the Nanaimo Clippers.
The winners of the Island and Mainland Divisions will play a semifinal series with the winner meeting the Interior Division champion in the BCHL’s Fred Page Cup championship series.

Ex Viper Dale Wins KIJHL Scoring Race:
Former Vernon Vipers forward Brody Dale won the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League scoring race finishing atop the scoring leaders. Dale lead the KIJHL in goals with fifty and in points with one hundred twenty three.
Dale and the Kelowna Chiefs had the best record during the regular season finishing atop the KIJHL standings with a 43-3-1-0-2 record, open the KIJHL playoffs tonight vs the 4th place Osoyoos Coyotes.
Dale is in his fourth season with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Kelowna Chiefs. In 45 games this season Dale recorded (50-goals-73-assists-123-points).

Dale started the 2015-16 season with the Chiefs played eight games as an "AP" affiliated player with the Vipers during the 2016-17 season before signing with the Vipers January 10th 2017. Dale finished the year with the Vipers, went pointless in 25 games. Dale was one of thirteen Vipers returning last year, was cut-released after training camp in August 2017 before returning to the Kelowna Chiefs. Dale split last season with the Chiefs and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League OCN Blizzard.

Vipers Meet Silverbacks In Opening Round Of Playoffs:
For the fifth time in franchise history and the second straight post-season the Vernon Vipers & Salmon Arm Silverbacks will meet in the BCHL playoffs. The Vipers swept Salmon Arm in four straight games in the 1st round of last year's BCHL playoffs before being eliminated in the 2nd round in six games by the Wenatchee Wild.
Even after a 4-0 loss Saturday in Penticton, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks still clinched 5th place in the Interior division after the West Kelowna Warriors fell 4-3 in overtime Saturday night in Trail. With the overtime loss West Kelowna finishes the 2018-19 regular season in 6th place. The Warriors will face the defending BCHL Champion Wenatchee Wild in the opening round of the playoffs.

The 26-21-7-3 Vernon Vipers make their third and final regular season visit to the Nicola Memorial Arena are coming off a 4-1 victory Wednesday over the visiting Coquitlam Express. Tonight's the Vipers final game of the regular season. The last time the Snakes were in Merritt, the Centennials won 4-3 November 9th. Vernon has won five straight games away from home and nine of their last eleven road games. The Vipers enter this evening, have won three of their last five games and seven of their last ten games. Since returning from the Christmas break the Snakes are 13-5-1-0 Vernon sits 4th in the Interior division are three points ahead of 5th place Salmon Arm and clinched home ice advantage and 4th place Friday night with the Silverbacks 5-2 loss to the visiting Penticton Vees. The Vipers will either face Salmon Arm or West Kelowna in the 1st round of the BCHL playoffs, depending on the outcome of the games being played tonight.
