For anyone who could not attend or watch tonight’s RBC Cup game here are my thoughts and views from tonight’s game. You may agree or disagree but we all have our own view and opinion on any game we watch. This is my opinion and my thoughts on how I saw tonight’s game. I try to be unbiased and give a fare recap on both sides. Thanks for stopping by & visiting my blog.
I was at tonight's RBC Cup game as Dauphin improved to 2-0 after a 4-3 overtime win over the 1-1 Carleton Place Canadians in front of a decent crowd at Kal Tire Place.
Starting Goaltenders:
Dauphin: Michael Stiliadis
Carleton Place: Guillaume Therien
1st Period: The Canadians come out strong firing everything on goal, generated alot of puck possesion and had all kinds of pressure in the Kings zone early and often. Kind of like yesterday's afternoon game Dauphin got off to a slow start, the Kings couldnt seem to get much of anything going, were having troubles getting out of their own end. Carleton Place with a few good chances couldnt beat former Vipers goaltender Michael Stiliadis who was once again good between the pipes for the Kings. The Canadians were all over the Kings, as most of the play was in the Dauphin zone. The Canadians were outshooting Dauphin 14-3 at one point before the Kings would kill off a penalty and open the scoring on just their fourth shot of the game. This goal seemed to change the momentum of the game, giving the Kings life as Dauphin with a huge push back slowly started to get their legs going, the Kings were a totally different team as Dauphin turned the tables and was now carrying the better of the play and outplayed Carleton Place late in the period. The Canadians went atleast six or seven minutes without a shot on goal to finish the period. The Kings with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Carleton Place outshot Dauphin 14-9.
2nd Period: Just 1:26 into the second the Canadians tied the game on their first shot of the period. But it was all Dauphin from here on in as the Kings who slowly turned things around late in the 1st period carried the better of the play and were the better team in the middle frame. Dauphin with several good opportunities couldnt capialize on their chances. The Kings come very close to re-taking the lead after hitting the post twice in the period. Carleton Place back on there heels at times had just one shot in the first twelve minutes was having all kinds of trouble getting out of their own end. The Kings with a great breakout had several odd man rushes either couldnt finish or couldnt beat Guillaume Therien. The Kings with a strong 2nd period couldnt find the back of the net were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play. Dauphin outshot Carleton Place 11-5.
3rd Period: The Canadians would get into penalty trouble in the final frame but it was a strong penalty kill that would give Carleton Place the lead after the Canadians scored shorthanded to grab their first lead of the night. The Kings would get a five on three man advantage and capitalze scoring twice on the powerplay to take a 3-2 lead. Back to back powerplay goals in less then three minutes restored the Kings lead. The Canadians with a much better showing in the 3rd played very well, seemed to hold their own and keep pace with Dauphin. This was a very evenly matched period with both teams going back and fourth, getting chances at both ends of the rink. Carleton Place would eventually tie the game at three as both teams scored some highlight goals in the third. Dauphin with a great chance to go ahead hit their third post of the game. The Canadians come on strong in the final minutes put a ton of pressure on the Kings but Michael Stiliadis was solid between the pipes. A very fast and entertaining period was tied 3-3 after 60 minutes of play. The Canadians outshot the Kings 11-6.
Overtime: Dauphin would get a great opportunity getting an early powerplay into the extra period. Once again a strong penalty kill by the Canadians early forced the Kings into taking a penalty, as both teams played a little four on four before Carleton Place would get a late man advantage but couldnt put the game away. The Canadians with the best scoring chance in OT had an odd man rush couldnt beat Stiliadis before the Kings would score the overtime winner on a play in close. Dauphin outshot Carleton Place 9-4.
Top Players: (Dauphin)
Tanner Butler played well on the Kings blueline.
Tyler Garrioch was the Kings best player this evening, this kid has some wheels, can really skate, move the puck and generate offence. Always in the play, stood out for me tonight.
Brayden Cuthbert plays with alot of jump and energy, a gritty two way player plays hard and works hard all night.
Michael Stiliadis (31 saves) Played very well tonight and in the Kings game yesterday. Gives Dauphin a chance to win.
Game Thought's: (Dauphin)
Just like the Kings opening game of the tournament yesterday I thought Dauphin got off to a slow start, the Kings didnt have their legs going and were stuck playing in their own end for most of the opening period. Scoring the games first goal, late seemed to give Dauphin some life and changed the momentum of the game as the Kings surged late with some good pressure slowly come on and played much better as the game went on. As the game went on I really liked the looks of Dauphin, they break out well, move the puck well, get alot of odd man rushes, and have solid goaltending. The Kings are now atop the RBC Cup standings with a 2-0 record will face Vernon Tuesday night. The Kings cant be taken lightly and along with Toronto Lakeshore are the two top teams at the tournament so far.
Top Players: (Carleton Place)
Adam Lloyd (1 assist) Had a good game up front for the Canadians.
Stephen Cooney (1 goal) Played very well for the Canadians. Scored a real nice goal with a rocket of a shot. A big kid, good with the puck and hard to knock off the puck.
Vinny Post (1 goal) Another player that stood out for tonight, I thought played well.
Guillaume Therien (31 saves) I thought played well, kept the Canadians in the game at times especially in the 2nd period where the Kings were outplaying Carleton Place.
Game Thought's: (Carleton Place)
The Canadians got off to a strong start, were firing everything on goal carried the play early and often but couldnt get that first goal. Carleton Place was all over the Kings in the first half but just couldnt find the back of the net. Outshooting Dauphin 14-3 at one point the Canadians gave up the first goal of the game and couldnt recover as the tables turned the Kings were now the team carrying the momentum and outplaying Carleton Place. I thought the Canadians were lucky to be tied 1-1 after 40 minutes of play. Give credit, Carleton Place come out with a much better effort in the 3rd and played well, a very evenly matched period kept pace with the Kings forced overtime before giving up the OT winner. The Canadians moved to 1-1 in the RBC Cup standings didnt play sixty minutes tonight and it cost them. The Canadians are good on the penalty kill, like to have a guy high and always have pressure on the defence.
