Thunder Re-Signs Defenseman Cameron Brodie
August 25, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL) Stockton Thunder
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Cameron Brodie (BROH-dee). Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Brodie, 23, is one of two defensemen along with Dan Ringwald to return on the same day from last year's 2010-11 team that nearly captured the Pacific Division title and finished in a tie for first place with the Bakersfield Condors.
"Cameron is a tough, good skating defenseman who steadily improved over the course of last season as a rookie," said Thomas. "When at his peak, he performed physically like a man amongst boys in a reliable 'shutdown' role. As he continues to work on his ability to create offense, we're confident his tireless commitment to reach the National Hockey League level will benefit his game and positively affect the work ethic environment in our dressing room."
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound blueliner skated in 60 games for the Thunder as a rookie last season, scoring two goals, totaling 12 points (2g-10a) and posting 51 penalty minutes. His +7 rating was third among Thunder rookies.
Brodie skated with the San Jose Sharks in 2010 rookie camp and in the 2010 Vancouver Canucks YoungStars Tournament, suiting up in two games and collecting five penalty minutes.
The White Rock, British Columbia native previously appeared in 12 games for the University of British Columbia (CWUAA) in 2009-10, scoring two goals, adding an assist and 22 penalty minutes.
His five year (2004-09) experience in junior hockey was spent in the British Columbia Hockey League with Surrey, Langley, Trail Smoke, Vernon and Merritt, totaling 63 points (15g-48a) from the blueline in 224 career games while posting 375 penalty minutes.
"I'm definitely excited to return and once again be a part of a great organization," said Brodie. "Unfortunately we didn't have the finish we wanted last year but it inspires you to quickly help your team get going in right direction again. I'm looking forward to growing my game, bringing a physical aspect that's worked in the past, adding a little more offensive zest to my game and continuing to work as a supportive teammate."
