Cents Now 4-0 in BCHL Exhibition Season After 3-2 Win Over Vernon

The Merritt Centennials improved to 4-0 on the BCHL pre-season with a 3-2 win over Vernon Saturday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
The Vipers opened the scoring just 1:46 into the first period on a goal by Alex Hagen. Colton Sparrow picked up the assist. Merritt outshot Vernon in the first period 12-9.
The Cents tied the game at the 7:39 mark of the second period when Noah Dolinajec jammed the puck past Vipers netminder Danny Todosychuk. Shots in the second were 12-8 Merritt and 24-17 Cents through 40 minutes.
Darren Nowick gave Vernon its' second lead of the game just 26 seconds into the third period. John Knisley and Marc Hetnik picked up assists. Just over five minutes later, Evan Stack scored to draw the Centennials even. Dylan Playfair got the lone assist.
With 3:47 left in the third, Stack and Playfair teamed up once again to give the Cents a 3-2 lead Playfair got the goal while Stack and Tyler Martin chipped in with assists.
Russell Sanderson started in goal for Merritt, allowing Vernon's first marker. Tyler Steel played the second half of the game, also allowing one goal.
Todosychuk gave up one Merritt goal in net for the Vipers while Mike Vlanich allowed two Centennials goals to be tagged with the loss.
The Cents are now tied with Powell River for top spot in the BCHL exhibition season with a 4-0 record.
Merritt wraps up the pre-season with a home and home series against Chilliwack next Friday, September 16 at Prospera Centre and Saturday, September 17 at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.
