Gare was a scout for eighteen years with the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers from 1997-2012.

Gare played two seasons in Vernon with the Vernon Essos from 1970-1972 In 115 games with the Vernon Essos, Gare collected (83-goals-114-assists-197-points). Gare was also Head Coach with the Vernon Lakers from 1986-1989.

The Vernon Essos were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Essos were around from 1967-1973 before changing their name to the Vernon Vikings in 1973.

The Vernon Lakers were one of seven different team names Vernon's junior hockey team has had since 1961. The Vernon Lakers were around from 1980-1995 before changing their name to the Vernon Vipers in 1995.
