The ECHL Allen Americans announced the team’s protected list of players

from the 2024-25 season. This is the first of a several-step process that ECHL teams use to begin building their rosters for the 2025-26 season. The Americans have twenty seven players listed on their Protected List, one is former Vernon Vipers forward Ayden MacDonald.
The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a minor professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams across the United States and Canada. Competitively, it is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The league serves as a farm system to the AHL and the National Hockey League (NHL).

MacDonald started the 2024-25 season with the ECHL Kalamazoo Wings, his third season in Kalamazoo, after re-signing with the Wings August 29th 2023. The Wings traded MacDonald to the Maine Mariners January 29th 2025. The Mariners traded MacDonald to the Allen Americans March 19th 2025. In 9 games with the Americans, MacDonald collected (3-goals-1-assist-4-points).
The Americans are MacDonald's fifth team since 2022. MacDonald played five years at Brock University from 2017-2022 before signing his first professional contract with the ECHL Greenville Swamp Rabbits January 4th 2022.
MacDonald committed to the Vernon Vipers for the 2014-15 season. The Vipers traded MacDonald & Jake Emilio to the Victoria Grizzlies October 8th 2014 for Brandon Egli, Mitch Meek and future considerations. MacDonald went pointless in 5 games with the Vipers. MacDonald played parts of four years in the BCHL with Surrey, Vernon, Victoria and Cowichan from 2013-2017.
