Vipers Blue-White Game: Team White 6 Team Blue 2

I was at the Vipers annual Blue & White game this moring as Team White defeated Team Blue 6-2

Starting Goaltenders:

Team White: Jarrod Schsmerhorn
Team Blue: Gunner Neilson

1st Period: Team White responded first after Mackenzie Bauer opened the scoring at 2:26 on a nice feed behind the net from Max Newton.  Both teams basically had the same rosters as last night's scrimmage other then a few lineup changes but it was a different game compared to last night.  Team Blue looked and played alot better this morning but fell behind by three goals in the first half the period.  Mackenzie Bauer setup Viper veteran forward TJ Dumonceaux at 7:08 giving Team White a 2-0 lead and just over three minutes later Vipers new recruit Johnny Coughlin with a nice rush put White up by three goals at 10:17 with Ryley Booth and TJ Dumonceaux picking up the helpers. Both teams had some looks at the net and got some good opportunities in a very quick fast skating period.  Team White was up 3-0 after the opening period.

2nd Period: Team White with another early goal jumped out to a 4-0 lead after Kurt Sonne found the back of the net at 3:32 on a goal that didnt look to go in on the intial play as the play kept going before the goal was announced on the next stopage in play.  Not alot of scoring opportunities in the middle frame as both teams were caught playing in the neutral zone.  A more tight checking period with both teams defensive coverage and play looking good.  At the halfway mark Vipers goaltender Danny Todosychuk replaced Gunnar Neilson who gave up four goals while Neilson joined Team White taking over for Vipers goaltender Jarrod Schamerhorn.  The Vipers going with just three goaltenders, meaning Neilson was forced to play the full game but played for both teams.  Team White was up 4-0 after two periods.

3rd Period: One of the more physical-chippy periods through out Training Camp as both teams played with a bit of an edge.  Several big hits at both ends of the rink also saw a few players taking liberties on other players as the level of intensity ramped up for the final day of Camp.  Team White would get two penalty shots (A penalty shot was rewarded for a penalty) Kurt Sonne and Max Newton were both stopped by Danny Todosychuk.  Team Blue would finally get on the scoreboard after Trever Fiddler found the back of the net.  Luke Voltin picked up the assist on the play.  But just over five minutes later new recruit Thomas Aldworth with a wicked snap shot from the circle beat Todosychuk giving White a 5-1 lead 14:31 Late in the game new recruit Luke Shiplo dropped the gloves with Riley Brandt in more of a wrestling match as Shiplo went off to the dressingroom along with the team trainer.  In the final minute new recruit Brenden Wagner got Blue's second goal of the morning going fivehole on Neilson at 19:08 Levi Johnson collecting the lone helper.  In the final seconds TJ Dumonceaux with a nice goal (2nd of the game) put Team White up 6-2 at 19:43 Thomas Aldworth with the assist.  Team White would come away with the 6-2 win wrapping up Vipers Training Camp.

Top Players: (Team White)

TJ Dumonceaux (2 goals & 1 assist) Was by far the best skater this morning.  The Vipers third year forward was all over the rink.  With his speed and quickness Dumonceaux was flying had several opportunities looked very strong with and without the puck.

Thomas Aldworth (1 goal & 1 assist) Has really impressed me this weekend.  This kid has size, goes to the net and seems to be a bit of a play maker.  Really sees the ice well well.

Mackenzie Bauer (1 goal & 1 assist) Was another kid who stood out for me today.  Isnt the biggest kid but looks quick, can skate and really finds open ice.  Played well.

Johnny Coughlin (1 goal) Was the second best player today, I thought the Vipers new recruit really stood out.  This kid can skate, move the puck and likes to join the rush.  Very impressed.

Ryley Booth (1 assist) Impressed me today, played very well on the backend.  Not too flashy offensively but steady on the blueline.

Top Players: (Team Blue)

Luke Voltin (1 assist) Caught my attention now and again, seem to show spirts through out the Blue-White game.

Anthony Latina who was recently acquired from the Carleton Place Canadians caught my eye.  Really had his legs moving today, played with a high intensity most of the game.

Does anyone know why Liam Coughlin, Derek Barach and Michael McNicholas are not at Training Camp?
