Lets take a look at the Vernon Vipers:

The defending Interior Division Conference Champion Vernon Vipers open their 20th BCHL regular season with the name Vipers.  It was twenty years ago Duncan Wray changed the name "Vernon Lakers" to the "Vernon Vipers" to start the 1995-96 season.  This year the Vipers will start  the BCHL Showcase without a Head Coach-GM.  After four seasons behind the bench former Vipers Head Coach-GM Jason Williamson left the team after just two pre-season games.  First year Assistant Coach Kevin Kraus will be the go to guy behind Vernon's bench as the teams Interim Head Coach until the Vipers find a new bench boss.  The Vipers lost sixteen players from last year's RBC Cup team, have just five returning players back for another season.  Second year defenceman Riley Guenther will be the Vipers captain this season.  The Vipers finished the pre-season with a 3-1-1-0 record are coming off a 4-4 tie Saturday in Prince George will begin the regular season on a three game road trip before hosting the visiting West Kelowna Warriors in the teams home opener.

Lets take a look at the Cowichan Capitals:

The Cowichan Capitals missed the BCHL playoffs last season are coming off a 3-1 loss to Victoria Saturday finished the BCHL pre-season with a 1-4 record.  The Capitals will play seven of their first nine games away from home will face the Vipers twice in their first six games.  The Capitals won just seven games on the road last season will play Vernon & Merritt at the BCHL Showcase.  Cowichan who won just twenty two games last year has seven players returning from last years hockey club.  Kyle Horsman will wear the "C" for a second straight season as Cowichan's captain this season.  The Caps lost fourteen players from last years team acquired goaltender Matt Zentner from the AJHL Camrose Kodiaks Thursday.
