Game Summary
Camrose Kodiaks 3 - Wellington Dukes 2
FLETTE LEADS KODIAKS TO FIRST WIN
CAMROSE, Alta. – Dalyn Flette was the story, making 42 saves, as the Camrose Kodiaks earned their first win of the 2011 RBC Cup with a 3-2 victory over the Wellington Dukes on Sunday night in front of a loud and proud Camrose crowd at the Edgeworth Centre.
The Kodiaks’ win was their second all time over Wellington at the RBC Cup – Camrose beat the Dukes 7-1 at the 2003 tournament in Charlottetown, P.E.I., en route to an appearance in the championship game.
Cole Wilson, Rylan Wiest and Luke Challier all scored second-period goals for the Kodiaks (1-1), but it was Flette who stole the show; the Camrose netminder made 16 saves in the first period alone, when the hosts were outshot 17-6 but trailed only 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Joe Zarbo and Steve Evans scored power play goals for the Dukes (0-1), who outshot the Kodiaks 44-27. Zarbo, Evans and Sean Rudy all had two points in the loss.
The Kodiaks will enjoy their first off-day of the tournament Monday to get ready for Tuesday’s game against Portage (7:30 p.m. MT), while the Dukes get right back to action against Pembroke on Monday night (7:30 p.m. MT).
