Vernon Vipers goaltender Kirby Halcrow has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending April 3, the league announced Monday.
Halcrow was named 1st Star in Games 1 and 2 of the Fred Page Cup finals after posting road wins of 3-1 and 1-0 against the Powell River Kings. Halcrow owns a 0.50 goals-against average and .978 save percentage in the finals. He's stopped 44 of 45 shots he faced in the two games and earned his first shutout of the playoffs.
The Vipers acquired Halcrow in an early-December trade and, after sharing netminding duties at the beginning of the playoffs, Halcrow has grabbed the number-one job and run with it. He and the Vipers are now on a six-game winning streak in the playoffs.
Honourable mentions this week go to Vernon forward David Robinson (game-winning goal on Saturday), Powell River defenceman Craig Dalrymple (one assist Friday) Vernon forward Bryce Kakoske (one goal Friday, 2nd Star).
