A little off topic but I see the Kelowna Rockets fired Kris Mallette today. He was Asst Coach with the 2013-14 Vipers before heading to Kelowna. He has been part of a very successful Rockets program for the past 11 years and is a very good hockey man. I wonder what the chances of him returning to Vernon to bring us back to respectability? Of course the owners would have to give him the reins and become silent investors so I doubt that would ever happen. It sure would be nice though and we could sew the names on the jerseys again instead of using Velcro. We can always dream!!!
I was just thinking this week, what no changes? And then today I saw the roster moves on the Vipers website. It seems like every week the Vipers are either making a trade, a player is leaving or the Vipers are signing a new player. In all of my years watching junior hockey in Vernon, I have never seen this many transactions in one season. This is absolutely crazy! Trades and roster moves are a part of hockey and junior hockey but this many in one season is ridiculous. Most teams are going through the same issue, some teams more then others. It seems like Vernon and Blackfalds have been the busiest teams in the league regarding transactions. I sure hope this isn't a going to be the normal every year now? I sure hope not. It's hard to follow the Vipers this season with so many moves, I couldn't imagine how hard it is on the players.
I like the addition of Zimmer. Bringing in a veteran kid with a ton of Western Hockey League experience isn't a bad thing. Zimmer has some size and has at least twenty or more points in four seasons.
DeGraves isn't the biggest kid but had twenty two points in fourteen games this season playing for Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep and twenty nine points last season with Delta Hockey Academy U18 Prep.
Quaschnick has some size, hasn't played much this season, playing in only thirteen games with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
Skeltins has some good size, an older d-man with experience playing with Latvia at the World Juniors this year and some junior hockey experience with the NAHL Amarillo Wranglers. Skeltins had eight points with the Wranglers this season.
With the BCHL trade deadline a month away, we could still see more players coming and going.
It would be nice to see that for sure!
But I’m also sure he’s heard the static of working for this teams ownership.
Very good suggestion, honestly I would assume he’s aware of the dictatorship here and he probably wouldn’t fall in line on the merry go round. Would love to see him and Ferner together!!
