Mike Ullrich Returns To Oilers
Wednesday, November 7th, 2012
TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers announced today the signing of center Mike Ullrich, one of Tulsa’s top offensive talents from a year ago.
In his rookie campaign of 2011-12, Ullrich, who started the season with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL), tied for the Oilers lead with 64 points. The Calgary, Alberta native was named to the CHL All-Rookie Team and was nominated as a finalist for the CHL Rookie of the Year Award. At 6-3, 205 pounds, Ullrich anchored Tulsa’s top line all season long and didn’t miss a single game.
After scoring five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in five games with South Carolina, Ullrich is bringing his scoring capability back to the Oilers lineup and will once again center Tulsa’s top line with Ryan Menei and Ben Gordon.
“Mike proved to everyone last season that he can be an elite player in this league,” said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay. “He’s big, he’s fast, he can shoot the puck and he gives us another weapon on the ice that opposing teams are going to have deal with. I wish we had him from the beginning of the season, but we’re thrilled to have him back and I know our fans are very excited.”
Ullrich, 26, recorded two hat-tricks last season and put up multiple points in 15 contests. Entering his second tour with the Oilers, Ullrich will be looking to recapture his form from last November when he put together a seven-game point streak and earned recognition as the CHL Rookie of the Month.
