I watched today's game on FloHockey. I thought the Vipers played a heck of a 1st period, had a slight edge in play in a period where both teams were pretty even. Cowichan was the better team in the 2nd period but give the Snakes credit, as they held their own. It was 2-2 heading into the 3rd before the Capitals blew the game open and dominated the period. The Vipers had some good looks to grab a 3-0 lead but couldn't, even at 2-1 had some chances to re-take a two goal lead but couldn't. Both goaltenders were good, Maxim Abdullayev kept the Vipers in the game at times. The Capitals, one of the league's top teams took over in the 2nd period and never looked back. Cowichan is quick, has a good transition game, had a ton of odd man rushes.
Well the Vipers seven game road trip is finally over. What a terrible schedule. When was the last time the Vipers didn't have a home game for a month? The Vipers finally get a home game next weekend but then hit the road the following weekend for two more road games.
Vernon doesn't have many wins this year but other then two games, the games have been close, entertaining and fun to watch. The team is much much better then last season, more competitive and are in most games. As a fan, that's all you can ask for. I wasn't expecting much this season. I didn't know the Vipers were looking for a new coach this season, so when Matt Cooke was hired a month before the season started and the team was basically recruited/already picked, I wasn't expecting much. Matt Cooke was given the previous management/coaches team. I'm going to be patient as I like the hiring and like the way things are going. Matt Cooke isn't going to change things over night, as this is going to be a process and will need some time. Before this season, players wanted out of Vernon, players didn't want to come here and previous management/coaches had 500 or below average teams the past five or six seasons. It's going to take Matt Cooke some time to try and change the culture and get kids to want to play here again. I'm staying positive and think the future is bright. Go Vipers Go!
I listened to the game on the radio while helping my wife put together some furniture, so I missed some parts of the game here and there. We just can't seem to win. I heard McMillan got kicked out in the 3rd. Not sure about our new goalie? You also have to realize the Capitals are a top team on the Island.
The boys held their own against another top team till they ran out of gas.
Brutal road schedule, playing some of the top to better teams, even though they get defeated, I don’t see quit in them.
Last years W-L might mirror this year so far, but the heart and effort is far better. Same match ups with last year’s team we’d have 4-5 goal upsets rather than being in it till the end most games.
Last year after 14 games they were 3W 11L same as this year.
So, are you saying you are having fun watching the Vipers lose?
Well that team just can't catch a win. I'm feeling bad for them. I do hope they can turn it around soon and pull off a few wins. You can't keep losing and losing. I'm sure the kids are putting in the effort and really hope they can get a few wins under their belt.
