Steelheads Sign Ex Viper Forward Dancs:

The East Coast Hockey League Idaho Steelheads have signed former Vernon Vipers forward Dexter Dancs.

Dancs finished his fourth year at University of Michigan last year, played a season and a half with the Vipers (2012-2014) after coming over in a trade with the Penticton Vees.  On December 5th 2012 the Vipers traded Jedd Soleway to Penticton for Dexter Dancs.  In 44 games with the Vipers Dancs recorded (30-goals-53-assists-83-points).  

Dancs scored one of the biggest goals in recent Vipers history, scored the overtime winner at the 2014 Royal Bank Cup in Vernon giving the Vipers a 3-2 overtime victory over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, giving the Vipers a semi-final berth at the RBC Cup.

Boise, Idaho – Idaho Steelheads announced that the team has agreed to terms with rookie forward Dexter Dancs on an ECHL contract for the 2018-19 season.

Dancs is coming off a four-year college career at the University of Michigan. The North Vancouver, British Colubnia native had his best statistical season in 2017-18, setting personal bests in goals, assists, points and plus-minus rating while helping to lead the Wolverines to their first Frozen Four appearance since 2011.

The 23-year-old netted 28 points (12g-16a) in 39 games last season, both ranked fourth on the team. Dancs posted eight multi-point performances in his senior season. He collected five points (3g-2a) in three NCAA Tournament games, including a goal and an assist in the national semifinal against Notre Dame.

In 141 career NCAA games, Dancs totaled 67 points (23g-44a) and 131 penalty minutes. With the Wolverines, Dancs won a Big Ten Championship in 2016 and was twice named to the Big Ten’s All-Academic Team.

Dancs played parts of three junior seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League prior to attending Michigan, appearing in 119 games for the Penticton Vees and Vernon Vipers and tallying 89 points (32g-57a) from 2011-14.
