Former Vernon Vipers forward Josh Prokop scored twice including the overtime winner Wednesday as the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-4 in overtime.
Prokop was in his second season with the Vipers, left the team September 26th 2018 for the Western Hockey League.

One point is nice. Two is better.
The Hitmen defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-4 in overtime Wednesday night to pick up their second win in their last four games played.
Josh Prokop led the way with two goals, one being the overtime winner and finished with three points on the night for a first star performance. Kaden Elder, Carson Focht and Riley Fiddler-Schultz also found the back of the net. Carl Stankwoski was busy all night, ending with 36 saves for his first win as a member of the Hitmen.
For Saskatoon, Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen, Dawson Davidson, Josh Patterson and Brandon Schuldhaus all scored for the home side. Goaltender Dorrin Luding also made 36 saves on the night.
It was a contest of lead changes, comebacks and everything in between as the two teams had a response for every goal in regulation time.
Saskatoon jumped to an early 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest before a late goal in the dying minute by Elder gave the Hitmen a boost of momentum and energy headed into the middle frame.
The Hitmen would score three unanswered goals in the second stanza, with Focht’s second of the season bringing them back to even four minutes in. Fiddler-Schultz would then display an impressive individual effort as he got off the initial shot and then followed up his own rebound to beat Luding to give the Hitmen their first lead of the night just a minute later.
The Blades came out strong to start the third, firing four quick shots in under a minute but it was the Hitmen who would score yet again as Prokop provided the insurance marker 54 seconds in.
As the clubs traded chances back and forth, the Blades would storm back to force overtime as Paterson would tip a point shot on the powerplay halfway through the period, and Schuldhaus would tie things up with a shot that got past a screened Stankowski.
The Hitmen who were winless in overtime on two occasions prior to Wednesday’s game received a big boost as Stankowski made a huge save at one end that was then followed up with the older Prokop marching down and firing a back hander to end the game.
It was the first multi-goal game and also first career three-point night for Josh Prokop, while Devan Klassen also picked up his first career WHL point with an assist on Focht’s second period marker.
The Hitmen will now enjoy a day off before returning to action Friday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors. They will then head off to Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings Saturday night to conclude a stretch of four games in five nights.
