Panther Sign Vernon Vipers Alumni Gill:

The Augsburger Panther have signed former Vernon Vipers forward Sahir Gill.

The Augsburger Panther are a professional ice hockey team in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. The team is based in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany.

Gill played last season with the American Hockey League Rochester Americans.


Gill left Boston University after three seasons to sign with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers in 2013. Gill attended the Montreal Canadians Training Camp in 2014 before being released. Gill has spent the past five seasons in the American Hockey League & East Coast Hockey League playing with the Wheeling Nailers, Hamilton Bulldogs, Rochester Americans & Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Gill was invited to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2016 training camp made his NHL pre-season debut September 28th 2016 went pointless in the Penguins 2-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Penguins assigned Gill to the American Hockey League Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins October 3rd 2016 where he would finish the season.

Gill played parts of two seasons in Vernon (2008-2010). Gill left the Vipers in July 2009 for the United States Hockey League (USHL) Chicago Steel but after playing in 26 games returned to Vernon in mid January 2010 to finish his Junior hockey career with the Vipers. In 71 regular season games with the Vipers Gill collected (21-goals-30-assists-42-points).

The Augsburger Panther replenish staff. With the signing of Sahir Gill, the DEL club now has 14 strikers under contract for the 25th season of the German Ice Hockey League, which begins in just a few weeks.

The 26-year-old Canadian Sahir Gill stormed last for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League (AHL) and denied there the strongest year of his professional career so far. In his 76 appearances, the center forward scored 18 goals and 21 assists. In his career completed the 180 cm and 84 kg heavy links Sagittarius a total of 182 games in the AHL for Rochester, Wilkes-Barre / Scranton and Hamilton (32 goals and 76 assists). In addition, for Gill 134 games in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in the statistics (21 goals and 85 assists).

Sahir Gill is considered an intelligent two-way striker with playmaker qualities. Of his abilities, Panther coach Mike Stewart convinced several times during his scouting trips in recent years. "Sahir Gill embodies exactly the type of player we were still looking for in our offensive. He is a strong player center, which will fit very well into Europe due to his running and sticking skills.
