It has been the breakout season Vernon Vipers forward TJ Dumonceaux was hoping for entering his final BCHL season and now it's paid off in the form of a college hockey future.
Dumonceaux committed this week to NCAA Div. I Bentley University. The Waltham, Massachusetts campus is located about 30 minutes from Boston. The school's hockey team, the Falcons, compete in the Atlantic Hockey Association against schools such as Air Force, RIT and Robert Morris.
Before the season began, Dumonceaux had just 15 goals and 21 assists on his BCHL register but this season has compiled 26 goals and 17 assists in 47 games. His totals put him second in Vipers goal scoring and fourth in points.
Bentley has recruited heavily from the BCHL over the past few seasons. On the current Falcons roster are BCHL alums Andrew Gladiuk, Alex Grieve, Max French, Matt Maher, Jayson Argue, Steve Weinstein and Tyler Krause.
Dumonceaux is the fifth BCHLer in the league this season to commit to Bentley along with Penticton's Cody DePourcq, West Kelowna's Jonathan Desbiens and Brett Mennear and Surrey's Andy Chugg.
