Weinstein Named Player of the Week; French Rookie of the Week

October 15, 2013

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Atlantic Hockey Association announced Tuesday that Bentley junior defenseman Steve Weinstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Vernon Vipers) has been named its Travel Team USA Player of the Week, and freshman Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna Warriors) was named the Travel Team USA Rookie of the Week.

This is the second time in his career Weinstein has been named Player of the Week. He led the team in scoring over its two games against Nebraska-Omaha with four points, all of which came on assists. He had two assists in Friday's 6-4 win, including the primary assist on Brett Gensler's (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) second period power play goal, which went down as the game-winner. Weinstein also assisted on both goals in Saturday's 4-2 defeat.

French earned the league's weekly Rookie honor on the strength of his two goal performance in Friday's win. The British Columbia native scored his first career goal on the power play to give the Falcons a 2-0 first period lead. He later netted a shorthanded goal in the second period, one of two the team scored on the night.

After splitting its first two games of the year in Omaha, the Falcons return to the ice on Wednesday night when they travel to Sacred Heart to open Atlantic Hockey play. Face off is set for 7:05 pm.
