Stingrays Sign Former Viper Hunter Bishop:

The ECHL South Carolina Stingrays have signed former Vernon Vipers forward Hunter Bishop.  In 13 games with the Stingrays Bishop has (5-4-9).  Bishop played parts of the last three years with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers & the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs, missing the entire 2011-12 season with an undisclosed injury. Bishop played parts of three seasons in Vernon (2005-2008).  Bishop left Vernon after two seasons and played in just four games at the University of North Dakota during the 2006-07 season before returning to Vernon during the Christmas break playing the remainder of the 2006-07 season and playing his final season with the Vipers (2007-2008) before playing the next two years at Ohio State University. In 140 regular season games with the Vipers Bishop collected (93-84-177). On March. 18th 2010 the Montreal Canadiens signed Bishop as a free agent to a two year contract.  Bishop attended the Habs training camp the last three seasons.

Stingrays Add AHL Depth and a Kelly Cup Champion to 2012-13 Roster

North Charleston, S.C.– The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that the team has signed forwards Shawn Weller, Hunter Bishop and defenseman Kevin Quick and agreed to terms with forwards Daniel Koger and Tyler McNeely.In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Weller, 26, dressed in 291 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) over the past six seasons with the Binghamton Senators, Abbotsford Heat, Manitoba Moose, St. John’s IceCaps and Texas Stars adding 44 goals and 43 assists for 87 points. The Glens Falls, New York, native saw ECHL action with the Bakersfield Condors and Elmira Jackals from 2007-2010 recording 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) in 56 games. Prior to turning pro, the third-round selection (77th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft attended Clarkson University for three seasons and won and ECAC championship in 2006-07.

Bishop, 25, appeared in 34 games with Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL last season scoring four goals and four assists for eight points. The Fairbanks, Alaska, native also spent time with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) during his rookie season adding five points (two goals, three assists) in nine games. Before jumping into the pro ranks, Bishop attended Ohio State University for two seasons (2008-10) and skated in four contests with the University of North Dakota in 2006-07 grabbing 59 points (29 goals, 30 assists) in 79 total games.
 
Quick, 24, helped the Florida Everblades (ECHL) capture their first Kelly Cup championship last season skating in 34 regular-season contests earning 10 assists and 16 postseason games netting a goal and three assists for four points. A third-round (78th overall) draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2006, Quick appeared in 173 games over three seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, registering 34 points (one goal, 33 assists). On January 13, 2009, the Buffalo, New York, native made his NHL debut with the Lightning and skated in six total games earning one assist.

Koger, 22, finished last season with the Stingrays burying six goals and six assists for 12 points in 13 games after being sent over in a trade with the Cincinnati Cyclones. In Cincinnati, the Szekesfehervar, Hungary, native acquired 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 22 games. Koger also appeared in 17 AHL games last season with the Milwaukee Admirals, Providence Bruins, Hershey Bears and IceCaps potting two assists.

McNeely, 25, battled in 66 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) last season racking up nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. In 76 total AHL contests, all with the Tigers, the Burnaby, British Columbia, native has 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists). From 2007-2011, McNeely attended Northeastern University tallying 105 points (44 goals, 61 assists) in 142 games and served as team captain his junior and senior seasons.

The Stingrays also announced that forward Jordan Braid and defensemen Tom Fitzpatrick, Casey Fazekas and ChrisBailer have joined the team under tryout agreements.
